A week of sweltering heat is beginning in the Region of Murcia. Temperatures are going to be ten or twelve degrees above the usual for this time of year, according to the forecast that the State Meteorological Agency is handling, which is already considering declaring an orange warning for high temperatures for the middle of the week because the thermometers could reach up to 44 degrees in the shade in some places.
At the moment the AEMET has already established a yellow warning for high temperatures on Monday 13 June in the Vega del Segura, Valle del Guadalentín, Lorca and Águilas between 12:00 and 20:00 hours for temperatures that will reach 38 degrees. On Tuesday, this warning will be extended to the regions of Noroeste and Altiplano, and maximum temperatures are expected to be close to 40 degrees.
The reason for this is a mass of African air that will move into the region from Monday onwards, displacing the more refreshing easterly winds. It will be unusually hot, especially on Tuesday and Wednesday, as Luis Bañón, from the meteorology centre in Guadalupe, explained on the programme ‘El Mirador’ on Onda Regional.
Bañón assures that this is an abnormally high temperature episode for mid-June. If the forecasts are fulfilled, in the last forty years there would not have been as much heat as the one predicted.
In addition, this mass of African air is accompanied by suspended dust. Not like what we had in March, but the sunrises and sunsets will be more yellow. For the moment, this weekend, temperatures above 30 degrees, usual for this time of year, and with a cooler sensation due to the easterly winds.
