Emergency services were unable to save a woman who died in a traffic accident on Tuesday morning on the A-7 motorway, as it passes through the town of Lorca, when the car in which she was travelling collided with a lorry and, in turn, a van crashed into it.
Another woman had to be rescued and taken to hospital with very serious injuries, according to sources from the Emergency Coordination Centre consulted by Europa Press.
The 1-1-2 received calls reporting the accident at 11.07 hours. The callers indicated that the occupants of the car were injured and trapped inside it.
Patrols from the Local Police, Guardia Civil, firefighters from the Consorcio de Extinción de Incendios y Salvamento de la Región de Murcia (CEIS) and ambulances with medical staff from the Gerencia de Urgencias y Emergencias Sanitarias 061 attended the scene.
Firefighters worked for about an hour to rescue the occupants of the car, two women. One of them, the passenger, died on the spot. The driver, after being freed by the firefighters, was stabilised by the 061 medical staff and taken by a Mobile Emergency Unit (UME) to the Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital in Murcia.
