The municipality of Olula del Río will improve and modernise public spaces in the town centre, La Hispanidad and La Noria thanks to investments from the Provincial Council of Almería. This has been specified by the vice president, Angel Escobar, who has detailed that the Governing Board has given the ‘ok’ to the award of works that will directly benefit residents and users of squares, streets and parks.
Specifically, the project Adecuación de espacios públicos Olula del Rio has a budget of 400,000 euros to be financed by the Provincial Plans and consists of six actions.
The also deputy of Development has highlighted the importance of provincial investments: “They are essential because they make it possible to carry out projects that, on their own, the municipalities would find it difficult to carry out. These actions fulfil the Diputación’s objective of equal opportunities for all Almeria residents and to fix the population in the 103 municipalities”.
In addition, he stressed that, thanks to the pioneering measure of the Provincial Institution to apply low prices in the award process to the municipalities, Olula del Río will save more than 11% of its contribution.
The areas of action are the town centre, the Urbanización La Hispanidad and the hamlet of La Noria:
Poeta Villaespesa street viewpoint: The aim is to create a viewpoint on the top of a slope taking advantage of the fact that there are no buildings and that it is a high point from where you can see part of the valley of the Almanzora River as it passes through the municipality. In addition, the pavement of the road will be renewed and extended with asphalt agglomerate and the construction of a pavement similar to the existing one in the street on the opposite side of the viewpoint.
Plaza Cuartel Viejo: The aim of this project is to convert the site into an urban square in order to create a space for the public to use and meet. For the construction of this square, two physically separated levels will also be preserved by means of a staircase which, in addition to serving as a means of access between the two, will also have an aesthetic function. The square will be equipped with gardens and planters as well as urban furniture such as benches, litter bins, as well as street lighting and a space reserved for the installation of a future ornamental fountain not included in this project. The paving of the adjoining part of Travesía del medio street will be renewed with cobblestones and the sewerage and water supply network will be installed.
Children’s playground in La Noria: Work will be carried out on a sports court. In this area, in addition to the court, there is a small building for the use of neighbours and a space paved with concrete for a recreational area with tables, benches, pergolas and barbecues. Also forming part of the aforementioned enclosure, where the gate giving access to the track is located, there is an area of land bounded by a wooden fence and planted with trees, which currently has no specific use. The aim is to recover this surface by paving it and to build a children’s playground to diversify the leisure options in this area.
Enlargement of the square. Urbanización La Hispanidad: The idea is to create a square occupying the upper part of a slope. The paving of this esplanade will be similar to that existing in the street. The stairs that gave access to the street from Avd. América, which had to be demolished for the construction of the wall, will be rebuilt. A staircase will be built across the entire transversal width of the esplanade as a means of access from the street. In addition, to comply with the accessibility criteria, an access ramp for the disabled will be built on the access road to the aforementioned garage. This new esplanade will be equipped with street lighting and protective elements with steel railings.
Slope containment in the street of Urbanización La Hispanidad. The aim of this action is to correct this situation by building a stone masonry wall to contain the roadway esplanade and achieve a small extension. This action includes the replacement of the asphalt road surface, the construction of a new irrigation channel and the installation of a protection system with a fence at the top of the wall.
Adaptation of Calle San Francisco. Its route goes around the block to a group of existing buildings, there is an undeveloped section. The purpose of this action is to complete the urbanisation of Calle San Francisco, through the installation of a sewerage collector, supply network, telephone service channelling, low voltage and public lighting line.
