The Association of People with Disabilities El Saliente and Depoadap have presented, in the auditorium of the Residence for People with Physical Disabilities Seriously Affected Francisco Pérez Miras de Albox, the Boccia School for people with disabilities, an initiative that arises with the aim of creating a base of players in the region of Almanzora, as a way of raising awareness and also possible participation in competitions.
This sports school is promoted by the Federación Almeriense de Asociaciones de Personas con Discapacidad, FAAM, and the Club de Deporte Adaptado Depoadap, serving as a meeting point and a boost for the practice of sports among people with disabilities.
The event was attended by the President of the Association of People with Disabilities El Saliente, Matías García, the President of the Adapted Sports Club Depoadap, José Carlos Tejada, the President of the Almeria Federation of Associations of People with Disabilities FAAM, Valentín Sola, the Councillor for Sports, Conference Centre, Trade and Tourism of the City Council of Albox Virginia Sáez Salvador and the Deputy of Sports, José Antonio García.

Paralympic sporting discipline
Boccia is a sporting discipline that requires the use of tactical skills and marksmanship. It is currently a Paralympic sport, although it has no equivalent in the Olympic Games.
This sport can be played by anyone with a disability, including people with reduced mobility, wheelchair users, using adapted equipment such as ramps. It can be played individually, in pairs or in larger groups.
Involvement of administrations
Many initiatives that improve the quality of life and social participation of people with disabilities would not be possible without the involvement and participation of public administrations. This is the case of the Boccia School, which will have the collaboration of the Albox Town Council and the Provincial Council of Almeria.
Thus, the Albox Town Council will cede the use of municipal sports facilities for participants to attend training sessions. For its part, the Provincial Council of Almeria provides a series of specific materials for the practice of this sport. Without this disinterested help from the Albox Local Administration and the Provincial Administration, it would not be possible to carry out the Boccia School, which will provide spaces for physical activity, socialisation and fun for many people with disabilities in the Almanzora Region, in the context of the promotion of normalised sport and leisure.
