The Provincial Council renovates public spaces and generates more than 3,000 jobs in Purchena, Suflí and Sierro
Purchena has refurbished the Usos Múltiples building.

The Plan de Empleo de Fomento Agrario (PFEA) continues to improve the municipalities and generate employment in the interior of the province. With an investment of 370,000€ and the generation of 3,260 day jobs, Purchena, Suflí and Sierro are improving several public spaces that contribute to further boosting the smaller municipalities. These actions are key to continue to equalize opportunities among Almeria and fight against depopulation, one of the main objectives of the Provincial Council.

The PFEA deputy, Matilde Díaz, visited the three neighbouring municipalities together with the mayors of Purchena, Juan Miguel Tortosa, of Suflí, Raúl Guirao and of Sierro, Adrián de Manuel, as well as other members representing the municipal corporations. During her visit, the provincial deputy checked in situ the work that has been carried out and had a meeting with the workers of a program that has the joint collaboration of the Diputación de Almería, the Junta de Andalucía, the Government of Spain and the beneficiary municipalities.

The provincial deputy, Matilde Díaz, stressed that “these actions are important so that the municipalities, especially those with fewer resources, continue to offer a good image through the improvements that are being made in important areas such as schools, swimming pools, parks, squares, multipurpose buildings and others that contribute to improving the conditions and quality of life of thousands of residents”.

Furthermore, the provincial councillor added that “the PFEA has become a perfect tool to fight depopulation because not only do we improve the municipalities, but we also create wealth and employment, and we do this for people who may have difficulties in accessing the labour market. With these day jobs, we help many people to improve their CVs and to have another reason to stay and live in a small municipality in the interior of the province”.

As for the actions being carried out, the municipality of Purchena has refurbished the multi-purpose building in the Campillo de Purchena neighbourhood and the San Ginés public school. It has also carried out different actions in one of the main avenues of the municipality and other gardening, painting and street furniture in some thirty streets and squares.

For its part, Suflí has paved Huertos and Poche streets and has carried out cleaning, clearing, painting and maintenance work in various public spaces which will benefit all the residents who use these spaces every day.

Finally, Sierro has paved the streets of San Antonio, Puntal and the access to Sierro Castle, carried out maintenance work in several parks and gardens, cleaned paths and painted several municipal buildings. In addition, the most important action has been the refurbishment of the swimming pool in Sierro, a key element for locals and tourists to enjoy the star element of the summer.

The PFEA in 2022

In 2022, the PFEA is investing 14.8 million euros in 238 projects that are improving the quality of life, opportunities and public services in 88 municipalities (including the ELA of Fuente Victoria).

The PFEA is an exponent of the institutional collaboration between the Provincial Council, the Andalusian Regional Government, the SEPE and the Town Councils.
