The Regional Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Environment and Emergencies of the Region of Murcia has set up a free shuttle service to transport visitors to the interior of the Regional Park of Las Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar from a dissuasive car park, also free of charge, located at the entrance to the natural area.

In recent years, the Park has been experiencing high anthropic pressure from visitors who in the summer period access the beaches in private vehicles, resulting in parking in areas not permitted, such as areas with natural vegetation, pedestrian paths or exits and entrances to roads and paths.

The impact on the flora and the disturbance to the fauna caused by the traffic of vehicles looking for parking is significant. In addition, this influx of vehicles leads to a decline in the quality of visitors’ enjoyment of the Regional Park, as they cannot find parking spaces and unnecessary traffic jams and noise are produced.

For this reason, the Directorate General for the Natural Environment, in collaboration with the City Council, has set up a free transport service to the interior of the Regional Park to mitigate the environmental impacts.

Visitors can leave their private vehicle in a free car park next to the entrance to the Regional Park and use a free and open tourist train that takes them to the beaches, while they can also contemplate the landscape of the salt ponds.

This service operates on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in July and also on Thursday of the last week. In August, every day until Sunday 21st and from 26th to 28th (Friday to Sunday), from 11.00 to 14.30 in the morning and from 16.30 to 20.00 in the afternoon, with a frequency of every 45 minutes and stops at the car park, Culebra curve, Torre Derribada and La Llana.

The service is co-financed with European funds from the ERDF and the Autonomous Community and has a total cost of 16,280 euros
