Technicians from the Murcian Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Research and Development (IMIDA) have detected normal oxygen values in 39 of the 40 points of the Mar Menor analysed this Monday, while they have found hypoxia values in the remaining point, according to sources from the Regional Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Environment and Emergencies.
Specifically, the daily monitoring campaign was carried out this Monday between the Mar de Cristal Yacht Club and the northern area of Los Nietos. Oxygen was analysed at 40 points, with an average value of 6.58 milligrams per litre. One point of the forty was below 4 milligrams per litre.
On the other hand, the councillor Antonio Luengo announced on Monday the installation of four fixed buoys in the Mar Menor which will take samples permanently and will allow the results to be known every six hours at different depths and completely autonomously.

The buoys will measure the level of oxygen, chlorophyll, temperature or salinity at the four chosen points. The data will be processed by the scientific staff of the Murcian Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Research and Development, as well as being made available to the various working groups.
The spokesman for the Mar Menor Scientific Committee, Emilio María Dolores, was present at the meeting and gave the latest parameters analysed on the state of the ecosystem. Thus, according to the samples taken on the 14th, the average temperature rose to 29.4 degrees Celsius, the salinity was 41.59 PSU and the turbidity fell to 0.82 FTU. The average chlorophyll level is 0.51 micrograms per litre and the average oxygen value is 6.88 milligrams per litre.
The update of the document ‘Soluciones Mar Menor’ (Mar Menor Solutions), which includes the specific actions that the regional government is carrying out for the protection and recovery of the Mar Menor, has been reported. It is now available on Canal Mar Menor.
On the other hand, no anomalies have been detected in the Mar Menor, according to the same sources.
