The president of the Partido Popular of Andalusia and acting president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, today reiterated his commitment to making the Andalusian community a powerhouse in renewable energies, while at the same time he has opted for clean energies that “do not make us depend on dictatorships that permanently blackmail us with them”.

During his speech at the second session of the Investiture Debate in the Andalusian Parliament, Moreno referred to the importance of avoiding fossil fuels that pollute, that limit our growth and capacity, that are also harmful to our health and to the planet, and that limit energy dependence on other countries.

“We want cheap energy for the middle and working classes, which are sustainable and do not depend on the world dictatorships that surround us,” he said, pointing out that this new legislature will promote Andalusia as a benchmark in the green economy and that the region has unparalleled conditions for generating projects, wealth and thousands of green jobs linked to sustainable energy. In his speech yesterday, Moreno indicated that for this legislature the government intends to double the power of renewable energy, with 12 new GW, exceeding 20 GW of installed power, which will enable Andalusia to generate as much energy as it does now using only renewable sources.

An increase that will mobilise a private investment of 12,000 million euros and which will create 30,000 direct jobs in the construction phase alone.

In this way, he stated that Andalusia can be one of the great European powers in the production of green hydrogen and therefore the Andalusian government is working on the creation of the Hydrogen Alliance because all this will allow this community to be an exporter of energy and an importer of sustainable industry.

Among the objectives proposed by the president of the Popular Party for this new legislature, he highlighted the Circular Economy Law, which was not approved and will return to Parliament in the coming months, and to improve air quality by creating more potential for CO2 sinks with a large repopulation of three million trees, grasses and shrubs through the new Forestry Plan with 300 million euros per year.

With regard to climate change, he said that it is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity and added that we have two options, “to make partisan and tactical use of this issue or to take a rigorous look at what we can and must do so that our children can enjoy the same possibilities that we have”. For this reason, he urged the implementation of policies that allow for the shared development of other continents and shared policies in the environmental sphere.

He also alluded to the importance of water and the search for new, efficient formulas because this is a demand from farmers and livestock breeders, while highlighting the role of desalination plants. In this respect, he pointed out that the Andalusian Government has allocated 1,500 million euros to water policies, but added that there is still much to be done and that to cover the needs it would require an investment of close to 10,000 million euros, for which the arrival of European funds is essential and also that the Government of the Nation executes the pending works.

To conclude, Moreno has assured that he will defend the interests of the Andalusians and Andalusia above all else and that he will be the president of all Andalusians, whatever they may think and whatever they may have voted for.
