Juanma Moreno is sworn in as president of the Regional Government of Andalusia
Moreno: “I want Andalusia to be the most important region in Spain, a benchmark of prosperity”.

The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has been sworn into office in Seville, in a ceremony held in front of the main façade of the Palacio de San Telmo, the seat of the Presidency. The ceremony featured the performance of several musical pieces, including the Andalusian and Spanish anthems, by the Academy of Orchestral Studies of the Barenboim-Said Andalusian Public Foundation.

Moreno, as he has said, has renewed his commitment to the Andalusian people this Saturday, in a loyal and honest way. “Together we will make this Community the land in which to live and work, in which to dream and turn our dreams into reality”. In line with the latter, he stressed that the place chosen for the inauguration, at the foot of San Telmo, is the epicentre of the tenacious work and constant eagerness for and with Andalusia. “We are on the streets because my Presidency will always be open and accessible. I want to be a president at the side of the Andalusian people, close to the reality of Andalusia”.

He also expressed his desire for Andalusia to be the most important region in Spain and a “benchmark of prosperity”. To this end, he has maintained that he has the necessary determination “to do whatever is necessary and to work as hard as necessary to ensure that Andalusia continues to make progress”. In relation to this idea, he stated that Andalusia can help Spain and contribute to its success.

In this regard, he highlighted Andalusia’s longstanding vocation of service, loyalty and love for Spain, whose contribution to the Nation throughout history has been exceptional, brilliant and fertile. “Today I renew the majority feeling of Andalusians of being Spaniards of light who, from the South, make a better Spain. Spain needs Andalusia”. And, as he said, Andalusia is a decisive land, with the capacity to contribute and the desire to cooperate with the rest of the territories, highlighting its solidarity. He also highlighted the fact that it has always been loyal and committed to democratic institutions, the Crown, the Spanish Constitution and its Statute of Autonomy.

“From this loyalty, as President of Andalusia, I will participate with determination in any debate of interest to Spain and Andalusia. I will have a loud and clear voice in defence of what the 8.5 million Spaniards who live in this land need and want”.

In this regard, he stressed that his first obligation is to listen to the people of Andalusia, to listen to their concerns and to know how to interpret their wishes, as he has done throughout these almost four years.

An Andalusia to lead, to attract and to dazzle

In his speech, he stressed that the future of Andalusia is everyone’s responsibility: “An Andalusia to lead, attract and dazzle”. He also said that he has always had confidence in Andalusia and that it has rebelled against resignation. In view of this, he assured that a period of new ambitions, ideas and projects is now opening up. “Wherever there is an opportunity, Andalusia will be there. We are going to go all out, fully aware of the difficulties, but spurred on by them. Andalusia can offer great things to Spain and the world”.

During the event, which was also attended by the President of the Andalusian Parliament, Jesús Aguirre, and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of the Spanish Government, Luis Planas, he considered the current economic and social context to be worrying and disturbing: with an energy crisis, soaring inflation, a war in Europe and growing polarisation. Faced with this, he asserted that there will be a solid government, with determination and confidence in Andalusia to move forward every day, with optimism and joy.

“Now that we are exporting more than ever and working to achieve a position of leadership in Spain and Europe, I want us to also export our Andalusian stamp of coexistence, courage and enthusiasm for life”. In this way, he expressed his conviction that the world would be a better place if it were a little less harsh and a little more Andalusian.

Consequently, Moreno celebrated the fact that in recent years Andalusia has lost its fear, has freed itself from complexes and has overcome stereotypes, becoming fully aware of what it is worth and how rich it is. “Today a new Andalusian pride is appearing on the streets of our land and in the eyes of our people. A renewed Andalusianism, far removed from clichés”. Along these lines, he pointed out that Andalusia is now showing the world a new, more modern and dynamic image, without renouncing its signs of identity. An Andalusia, he continued, that looks to the future and at the same time vindicates the overflowing richness of its heritage.

Andalusia’s leadership and pride in being Andalusian

At this point, he addressed the young Andalusians, who are, in his opinion, the protagonists in the recovery of this proud Andalusianism. He also stressed the importance of young people for the new government, who will be taken into account in building the present and future of Andalusia. In this respect, he pointed out that he is firmly determined to expand their training and employment opportunities, as well as to remove obstacles that still hinder young talent in the autonomous region.

He also stressed Andalusia’s desire to be at the forefront of progress and well-being in Spain and Europe. “Andalusia’s leadership and pride in being Andalusian are not empty words or idealistic pipe dreams for me. They are concrete goals towards which to advance, they are real actions”. In this sense, he said that leadership means being at the forefront in job creation and wealth generation, having a modern, quality healthcare system, excellent education and an ecosystem that is conducive to research and innovation.

He also stated that this leadership means real equality between women and men, strong services for all and solidarity with those who are most vulnerable. It also means a green and sustainable economy and the protection of natural heritage, “threatened by fires and climate change”. “Leadership and pride mean that every family, no matter who they are and in every corner of Andalusia, has within their reach the opportunities to develop their lives with prosperity, peace of mind and freedom”. Finally, he expressed his enthusiasm for a time of “renewed ambitions”.

The event, which was attended by more than 600 people, was also attended by the regional presidents of the Xunta de Galicia, Alfonso Rueda; the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras; the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso; the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco; the Autonomous City of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, and the Autonomous City of Melilla, Eduardo de Castro.

Also in attendance were the former President of the Spanish Government, Mariano Rajoy; the Mayor of Seville, Antonio Muñoz; the former President of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Susana Díaz, as well as the spokespersons of the parliamentary groups and the President of the Partido Popular, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, among other authorities and representatives of political and civil society.
