The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed the operation ‘Vorgus’, an investigation initiated to clarify a cyber attack on a company in Los Alcázares, which has culminated with the identification, location and investigation of a resident of San Pedro del Pinatar who had been fired from the company attacked.
Specifically, the alleged perpetrator has been instructed proceedings as the alleged perpetrator of the crime of damage to computer programs, according to sources from the Benemérita in a statement.
The proceedings began when the head of a company filed a complaint with the Guardia Civil in which he stated that he had suffered a cyber-attack on the company’s computer server, causing considerable damage.
Specifically, the cyber-criminal erased all the data on his web domain, the company’s server and his clients’ e-mails, causing the company’s website to crash and causing great damage to the company.
The civil guards of the @ Team, after verifying the criminal acts reported, opened the operation and focused the investigation on the analysis of the accesses that had been registered in the company’s computer system.
The exhaustive analysis carried out allowed the Benemérita to detect an IP address (unique address that identifies a device on the Internet or on a local network), which was allegedly related to the computer attack under investigation.
The investigations carried out allowed them to find out that behind the suspicious IP was a computer device that had accessed the network of the affected company from the outside and without authorisation at the date and time of the computer sabotage. It was also possible to identify the user behind the IP linked to the crime under investigation, who turned out to be a former employee of the affected company, who, apparently, was motivated by his dismissal and in retaliation decided to sabotage the computer system of his former company.
Once all the necessary evidence had been obtained, the civil guards of the @ Team located and investigated the suspect, who has been prosecuted as the alleged perpetrator of the crime of damage to computer programmes.
The suspect, together with the proceedings, has been placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction of San Javier (Murcia).
