In the town of Cantoria everything is ready to celebrate this Saturday 30 July, the solidarity race in memory of Jaime Jiménez, a young Cantorian by adoption who for years fought against Duchenne muscular dystrophy, one of the diseases considered as “rare” and for which still not enough money is allocated for research to allow possible cures.

The race is back after the pandemic, a nine-kilometre timed race with electronic chips that will start at 20.30 from the Plaza de la Constitución. Participants over 16 years of age will be able to take part and it will be essential to register on the website www.montureventos.com beforehand, while for the rest of the modalities it will be enough to register one hour before at the organisers’ stand.

As in previous editions, the whole family will be able to take part, from the “chupete” category for children aged 4 to 6 years old and 150 metres in length, to the benjamín, alevín and infantil categories, which will cover distances of 300, 600 and 1000 metres, respectively, for children aged between 7 and 15 years old.

Another option will be hiking with the Vestiges of the Past II route, optimised for participants aged 8 to 75. It will start at 7 p.m. from the Plaza de la Constitución and will cover a distance of 8,900 metres, which is very accessible for those who are up for it.

The aim of this race is to raise funds for organisations working to find treatments for rare diseases, for which the registration fee is 10 euros. In addition, an account number has been set up at La Caixa: ES06 2100 2626 3002 1020 4342. Those who want to collaborate should specify in the concept: “Carrera Jaime 2022”.

With this initiative Cantoria remembers one of its sons, Jaime Jiménez, who in spite of his muscular atrophy managed to take part in this race -as illustrated on the cover-, with which it now pays tribute to him.
