The municipality of Tíjola will have a regional Sports City, thanks to the institutional collaboration between the Diputación, the Town Hall and the Junta de Andalucía. In addition, hundreds of residents gathered at the inauguration of the Plaza del Grano with a performance by the students of the Escuela de Baile and the unveiling of the sculpture in honour of the patron saint of the municipality: San Sebastián.
The historic day in the municipality of Tíjola began with the laying of the first stone of the future Regional Sports Complex by the President of the Provincial Institution, Javier A. García, the Mayor, José Juan Martínez, and the acting Government Delegate, Aránzazu Martín. The three were accompanied by the mayors, councillors, provincial deputies and sportsmen and women of the municipality who witnessed the start of the works, which represent an investment of 3.3 million euros.
Specifically, this action, which has a completion period of 12 months and will be a reality next summer, consists of two actions: on the one hand, the construction of an artificial turf football pitch, with its corresponding changing rooms and stands; as well as sports courts and the development of the surrounding area with green areas, pedestrian routes and car parks.
The president of the Provincial Council has highlighted that “works like these awaken pride in being a tijoleño”, since this municipality will have “one of the best sports complexes in the province in this population range, matching the services with those of the rest of the province”.
In addition, with a contribution of 1.2 million euros from the Provincial Council, “this complex will be a benchmark and will welcome thousands of residents from the municipalities of the region who will have a modern sports complex adapted to their needs,” said Javier A. García.
Finally, Javier A. García highlighted the value of institutional collaboration to ensure that the residents of the 103 municipalities can have “the same opportunities, services and infrastructures wherever they live”.
The acting government delegate of the Junta de Andalucía, Aránzazu Martín, stressed that “this event is an example of what institutional collaboration really means and in a few months we will be able to see how, thanks to the work of all the administrations together, the residents of Tíjola will be able to enjoy a sports complex that is a benchmark in the province”.
Martín explained that “the Andalusian Government is going to invest around 750,000 euros in these new sports facilities which will be a turning point and which all sports enthusiasts will be able to enjoy in different disciplines”.
He added that “the Junta de Andalucía’s objective is to promote a healthy lifestyle and the practice of sport, and for this to become a reality, infrastructure is needed to facilitate the practice of sport. This new space will have all the tools for Tíjola to be at the forefront of sport in the Almanzora region.
For his part, the mayor of Tíjola said that with this act “justice is done, because our town was the only municipality with more than 2,000 inhabitants that did not have a grass football pitch so that our young people and children could enjoy this sport. Until now they had to travel outside the province.
He also recalled that it would never have been possible without the commitment of the Junta de Andalucía and the Diputación Provincial de Almería with my friend and president Javier A. García at the head.
