A driver is investigated for pushing his vehicle from the motorway onto a service road to avoid a checkpoint – GUARDIA CIVIL

The Guardia Civil of the Region of Murcia has developed an investigation aimed at identifying the driver of a car that evaded a police checkpoint established on the road of La Manga del Mar Menor RM-12 (AP-7 Los Beatos-La Manga), pushing his vehicle down an embankment to the service road.

The driver, whose driving licence was suspended, was located ten days after the incident and investigated as the alleged perpetrator of two offences against road safety, according to sources from the Armed Forces.

The investigation began when the Guardia Civil became aware of the existence of a video on social networks in which two individuals appeared pushing a car down a slope towards the service road of the RM-12 road, at the height of the exit to Mar de Cristal, which caused a risky situation for other road users.

Examination of the images revealed that both the driver and his passenger did not hesitate to stop the vehicle, get out and push it down a slope, while the rest of the drivers remained in their vehicles waiting to cross a police checkpoint.

The Benemérita initiated an investigation which allowed them to find out that on that day, in the vicinity, a checkpoint for alcohol and drugs had been set up by agents of the Traffic Sector, which led them to suspect that the aforementioned manoeuvre could have been carried out in order to evade it.

The detailed examination of the video, the testimonies of several users and the innumerable steps taken by the investigators have allowed both the vehicle and the driver to be located ten days after the events.

He is a 26-year-old Senegalese citizen from Cartagena, who has been investigated as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against road safety, for driving a motor vehicle while his driving licence is no longer valid due to the total loss of the legally assigned points, having been deprived of his licence as a precautionary measure by a court decision.

The driver has also been reported to the Murcia Provincial Traffic Headquarters for reckless driving, getting out of the vehicle and leaving it ungoverned, entering a bicycle lane after pushing the car to evade a police device, carrying a fine of 500 euros, as well as for not having the corresponding periodic technical inspection of the vehicle.

The person under investigation has been placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction number 1 of Cartagena (Murcia).

CITIZEN COLLABORATION
The Guardia Civil appeals to the cooperation of citizens, as has happened in this case, given the high level of danger posed by the circulation of vehicles in an irregular manner, so that as soon as they detect one of these situations, they should urgently call ‘1-1-2’ (emergencies) or ‘062’ (Guardia Civil) providing any information or image that may lead to the identification of the alleged offenders.

The offence of driving a motor vehicle or moped, in cases of loss of validity of the licence or licence due to total loss of the legally assigned points, is included in article 384 of the Penal Code and can be punished with prison sentences of 3 to 6 months or with a fine of 12 to 24 months and community service of 31 to 90 days.

The offence of driving a motor vehicle or moped after having been temporarily or definitively deprived of a licence or permit by judicial decision is included in article 384 of the Penal Code and can be punished with prison sentences of 3 to 6 months or with a fine of 12 to 24 months and community service of 31 to 90 days.
