Work on the San Isidro Bridge in Huércal-Overa will be completed in Spring 2023
The President of the Provincial Council, Javier Aureliano García, the Deputy for Development, Environment and Water, Ángel Escobar and the Mayor of Huércal Overa, Domingo Fernández, visited Puente San Isidro.

The Almeria Provincial Council and the Huércal-Overa Town Council continue to work on one of the most important projects to improve access to the municipality via the San Isidro Bridge, as well as the area around the N-340. This project, financed by the Provincial Plans, has an investment of 1,300,000 €.

The president of the Provincial Council, Javier A. García, and the mayor, Domingo Fernández, visited the area around this emblematic viaduct to check in situ the state of progress of the works, which will be completed in eight months’ time.

The importance of this “historic” project lies in the fact that it will put an end to the accident rate of a black spot on the roads and at the same time recover this area and this viaduct for the use of the people of Huercal. The government team began the procedures to carry out the project in 2012 and it is currently in full execution.

The objectives of this project are the complete renovation of the northwest access to Huércal-Overa, the elimination of this black spot and the decongestion of traffic in the area with future links that give access to the reference hospital of the region: La Inmaculada.

To achieve this, a new bridge will be built for vehicle traffic and the old one will be used only for pedestrians and cyclists. Two new roundabouts will be built to regulate traffic and the San Isidro bridge will be enhanced at a monumental level.

The president of the Provincial Council has detailed the importance of this project: “This work is transcendental and will mark a before and after for the municipality. It not only benefits the residents of San Isidro and La Atalaya, but also all drivers who access the town and the Hospital via this link”.

Javier A. García emphasised that this action is the result of institutional collaboration: “This project has united the provincial institution and the town council around an action that will add value to and recover the use of an area that until now the people of Huercal could not enjoy”.

The mayor of Huércal-Overa, has expressed his satisfaction with the pace of work on this important project for the municipality “with which we materialise and make real the commitment we made to our neighbours, providing a solution to a historical demand. Huércal-Overa is moving forward with the improvement of its accesses, with the new San Isidro bridge and the access road to the Hospital, improving its infrastructures and services. This is the result of our work, we continue to meet the demands and needs of our municipality to build together the best Huércal-Overa”.
