Carlos Sobera stars in the play “Miles Gloriousus” by Plautus, in a version by Antonio Prieto and directed by Pep Antón Gómez, which can be seen at San Javier Fest on 13 August. The show, which comes to San Javier a few days after its premiere at the Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico de Mérida, which co-produces the production with Arequipa Producciones, focuses on the figure of Miles Gloriosus, a braggart, sex-obsessed, narcissistic military man. Carlos Sobera defines him as a character who represents “the most absolute cockiness, a rude military man who thinks he is very handsome and absolutely irresistible to women”.
Pep Antón Gómez’s mastery of humour, as he demonstrated in the hilarious “El Eununco”, which also passed through the Festival. , which also passed through the San Javier Festival, generates enough expectations not to miss a night of guaranteed fun in the auditorium of San Javier. Carlos Sobera will be accompanied by a cast that includes Ángel Pardo, Elisa Matilla, Elena Ballesteros, Juanjo Cucalón, David Tortoso, Antonio Prieto and Arianna Aragón.
The plot of the play, which opens a few days before arriving in San Javier, centres on the hated Miles who has kidnapped a beautiful young woman in love with another. The plot begins when the young woman is discovered with her lover, whom she sees through a hole in the wall opened by Miles’ slave and a neighbour, which leads to a complicated and hilarious plot hatched by the slave to make a mockery of his smug boss.
