With the aim of encouraging the participation of young people from the province of municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants in a recreational activity through new entertainment technologies, the Diputación de Almería has launched the E-Sports and Video Games Circuit 2022, an initiative that will reach 12 municipalities throughout this summer.
The aim of this proposal is to offer a productive leisure activity that socially revitalises the towns of the province, encouraging young people from Almeria to meet and play collaboratively through a day of E-Sports (Sports video games) and other video games that promote teamwork, avoiding those of a violent nature or that encourage bad habits.
One of the last events of the circuit was held in María and was attended by the Deputy for Sports and Youth, and Mayor of this town, José Antonio García, who was able to see how enthusiastic the young people were about the activity and even try their hand at some of the games.
The deputy explained that “through this circuit we are promoting a leisure activity that allows the smaller councils to offer an original event in their summer programme designed for young people. Each day allows participants to enjoy numerous games and consoles, giving young people the chance to make positive use of their free time, taking into account their interests and needs”.
The days of each circuit take place in the mornings and afternoons. The space is organised with several stands with screens with current consoles, such as the PS5, controllers, stands with retro games, driving simulators, virtual reality, giant screen, movement area: including dancing games, bowling, badminton, volleyball, tennis…
All attendees can enjoy current games such as: Fifa 22, Just Dance 2022, NBA, Super Mario World, adventure games…, and up to 30 different activities. Many of the titles are cooperative, having to make teams to achieve victory.
In addition, the circuit has a programme of activities related to different themes: e-sports, the world of manga, anime, video games, cosplay and Japanese culture, with recreational and cultural content and commercial spaces, with the aim of consolidating a leisure, cultural and social offer, aimed especially at young people.
This year the circuit will take place in the following municipalities: Abrucena, Albox, Balanegra, Cóbdar, Enix, Felix, Pechina, Santa Cruz de Marchena, Vélez Blanco, Zurgena and María.
In response to the current situation and the health crisis caused by COVID 19, a document has been prepared, which compiles a series of recommendations and measures to be implemented in the municipalities where these types of activities are carried out for young people, taking into account the current regulations, with the aim that the actions are carried out with all the measures of prevention and safety for the participants.
