The Provincial Council of Almeria, with the aim of bringing culture closer and programming quality activities in all the towns of the province, has designed the Provincial Cycle Cortos a la Carta 2022, (Shorts on Demand 2022) an initiative that will bring 12 sessions with some of the award-winning short films from the latest editions of the Almeria International Film Festival, FICAL, to seven municipalities.
The municipalities of Almócita, Paterna del Río, Albanchez, Sierro, Fines, Albox, and Huércal de Almería will host a total of 12 screenings of short films, each lasting 70 minutes, where works of different nationalities and years that have triumphed at FICAL since 2011 and up to the present day can be seen.
The screenings begin in Almócita this Friday, 26 August, and will continue throughout September and until the end of October, with the last session in Fines on the 27th of that month. In Albox and Paterna del Río, one session has been programmed, and in the rest of the municipalities, two screenings have been organised.
The Deputy for Culture and Film, Manuel Guzmán, explained that the aim of this cycle is to “provide all possible facilities so that all corners of the province can get to know and enjoy some of the best short films that we have seen in recent editions of FICAL. All the shorts to be screened have received an award at our ‘Almería en corto’ competition, and are therefore of proven quality”.
In this regard, the deputy added that “thanks to this project we collaborate with the town councils to give them the opportunity to programme an original and quality activity that without this support they would not be able to carry out. One of FICAL’s objectives is to awaken a passion for film, an art form so closely linked to our land, and with this initiative we are giving shape to this purpose and, more importantly, involving all the municipalities and people of Almería with their festival”.
Finally, the Almería Provincial Council is stepping up preparations for what will be the 21st edition of FICAL, which this year will take place from 18 to 27 November. The deadlines for some sections have already closed, such as ‘Almería en corto’ or the Almeria Audiovisual Production Projects Competition, while others are still open, such as the photography competition ‘Almería, tierra de cine’, or the feature film competition ‘Ópera Prima’, which closes on 7 October.
