Provincial Council calls for tenders for the works to provide a roof for the tracks at the Velázquez and Virgen del Saliente schools in Albox
The pupils of these two schools will be able to practice sport 12 months of the year thanks to the Diputación’s investment.

The pupils of two infant and primary schools in the municipality of Albox will be able to play sport all year round thanks to the works that are going to be carried out through the provincial investments. This was announced by Ángel Escobar, the deputy for Development, who explained that the Provincial Institution has put out to tender the two projects, charged to Provincial Plans, for the provision of a roof for the sports courts of the Virgen del Saliente and Velázquez schools.

Both projects provide a solution so that neither rainfall nor the intense summer heat will prevent the practice of sport on these multi-sports courts, which are 38.80 metres long and 20 metres wide. In the same way, these roofs will provide a refuge area for the pupils during break times.

Both schools have opted for an anti-bearing roof model that allows the creation of open spaces without pillars at distances of more than 30 metres, thus facilitating the practice of sports. The project includes the lining of the pillars with cylindrical protections of polypropylene to protect the pupils from possible impacts against the pillars.

The projects also include improvements with the provision of lighting for times when there may be a light deficiency for sports practice with outdoor floodlights.

Ángel Escobar has highlighted the importance of these investments that will have a direct impact on the children of Albox: “We are looking at half a million euros that will improve the sports and educational infrastructures of this municipality. These two schools will have covered courts where they can play sports or enjoy their free time at recess without having to suffer the inclement weather”.

The deputy for Development recalled that thanks to the investments included in the 2020-23 Provincial Plans, equal opportunities in sports are being promoted in the province with the improvement and construction of facilities in 16 municipalities in all the counties. “We are talking about more than six million euros to ensure that municipalities can have the same infrastructure and services as in a large city,” he explained.

Ángel Escobar highlighted the two sports projects that the Provincial Council is promoting in the Almanzora region: “Weeks ago work began on the Al Moroc Sports Complex in Tíjola, which has a regional character, and very soon the improvement of the sports complex in Olula del Río, which is financed by the Provincial Plans, will be carried out”.
