Los Arcos del Mar Menor hospital has introduced new material and human resources in the advanced respiratory monitoring unit, which together with the infectious diseases unit is equipped to isolate and monitor patients with serious pathologies.
Created as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the advanced respiratory monitoring unit, which will benefit more than 200 patients from the health area per year, is equipped with the human and material resources necessary for continuous monitoring of patients. It has four beds for individual use and centralised monitoring of vital signs, which can be extended to nine beds if necessary. It also has non-invasive respiratory support equipment for hospitalised patients, such as non-invasive ventilators, oxygen therapy equipment and rapid access imaging tests. The specialties of Pneumology, Internal Medicine, Rehabilitation and Intensive Care hold joint sessions and exchange information and criteria to provide optimal patient care.
Infectious pathologies
The infectious pathologies unit, aimed at the initial care and evaluation of patients with possible infectious diseases, is located next to the emergency department and consists of eight boxes with isolation measures, which are particularly important in these cases.

All the boxes are equipped with elements for monitoring and surveillance of patients, ensuring adequate care and preventing the spread of infectious agents.
