This Sunday afternoon, the match corresponding to the quarter-final of the Copa Andalucía was played at Los Olivos de Cantoria, between Cantoria 2017 and Villacarrillo de Jaén.
The final score was 0-3, too much punishment for the Aurinegros who carried the weight of the game for much of the 90 minutes, with the fans pushing Ricardo Mora’s side in search of a goal that never came.
The visitors, with a lot of order, waited for their chance. In the first half, Alberto, the home goalkeeper, was a privileged spectator as the Villacarrillo players did not set foot in the box in the first 45 minutes.
However, the Cantorians were condemned by some mistakes and will now have to travel to Jaén with a result that makes the play-offs very difficult.
In the 18th minute of the second half, a penalty converted by Tomás gave the blue and whites the lead.
From then on very little was played. Rocks, falls, exaggerations, with the only aim being to keep the clock ticking.
In the 85th minute, the 600 people who filled Los Olivos called for a handball inside the visitors’ area, which the referee did not award.
Two minutes later, a mistake in the home defence led to a goal from Godwin, who shot past Alberto.
In stoppage time, Galeano headed past the Cantoria keeper from a corner to put the scoreboard to bed. Just before the end of the game, Abdou was sent off and will miss the second leg.
A heavy defeat and a result that did not reflect what was seen at Los Olivos. Perhaps that’s why the fans gave the team a standing ovation, in recognition of the road they had travelled so far.
Now it’s time to play the second leg next week at the municipal Veracruz in Villacarrillo. Everything that has happened so far is part of the new history of a club that, since its re-foundation, has done nothing but give joy to its supporters.
