Cantoria 2017, lost this Sunday at noon in the municipal Veracruz of Villacarrillo by 1-0 and in this way ended their participation in the quarter finals of the Copa Andalucía -which gives a passport to the Copa del Rey-, after having lost 0-3 at home and in the second leg by the minimum.
The result is an anecdote as Cantoria 2017 has written its most important page in its recent history. In February, nobody was thinking of participating in the Copa Andalucía, because at that time the threat of relegation was hanging over the Aurinegro’s house.
At that time, decisions were made and the coach David Calleja was replaced by the Ricardo Mora-Juanma Sánchez tandem. Everything remained in the family and the objective at that time was to leave the lower positions in Group 2 of the Andalusian Division of Honour.
With a couple of tweaks and a motivational boost, the team began to count their matches by victories and reached the end of the championship in seventh position, which allowed them to play in the Copa Andalucía.
In the round of 16, they eliminated Cúllar Vega from Granada, and for that alone, the merit of this club must be recognised.
In a short time, since its re-foundation, Cantoria 2017, managed to reach the regional division. It managed to get the football fans of the region involved, it has grassroots football and the women’s team is taking its first steps.
Its fans go along with it and wear yellow and black wherever they play. That is why Ricardo Mora – former player until last season, president and now coach – should be given a monument at the entrance to the municipality. Of course, all his boys, -many friends-, who accompany him and believe in him, should be applauded and given credit.
In that sense, the participation of the Cantoria 2017 in this edition of the Cup has been a prize, a caress, an incentive to move forward.
Now it’s time to compete seriously, the league begins and it’s time to get back on track.
