Convicted of punching Albox mayor
The accused has agreed to the sentence proposed by the prosecution.

The Third Section of the Provincial Court of Almeria has sentenced the man accused of punching the mayor of Albox, who has admitted that he assaulted the mayor of Albox, Francisco Torrecillas, to a year and a half in prison for assault, according to the EFE news agency.

The accused has agreed to the sentence proposed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office after the prosecutor reduced his initial request for two years and nine months for this crime, although the Public Prosecutor’s Office has maintained its account of the facts and the rest of the requests.

In this way, a restraining order has also been imposed on him for the crime of assault, preventing him from approaching Torrecillas within 300 metres and from communicating with him by any means for four years.
He will also have to pay a fine for this offence and a second fine for a minor injury offence, for which another restraining order of 200 metres was imposed for six months.

Finally, he will not pay the compensation of 210 euros claimed for civil liability, as the assaulted person waived it in the name of “social peace” and because the accused had “assumed” his guilt, according to the mayor’s lawyer.
After this, the magistrate, Társila Martínez, handed down the sentence “in voce” in the courtroom itself and declared it to be final, after which she said she hoped that “cordiality in Albox would continue” and that “events of this type” would not happen again.

The qualification of the prosecutor points out that the events took place around 17:45 hours on 18 April 2018, in the Avenida América in Albox.
The councillor was there together with a councillor from his government team, a notary and local police officers to collect a “series of documentation” that was in a stall.

According to the prosecutor, the accused then took the opportunity to, “without saying a word”, punch him in the nose, with “knowledge” that at that moment he was exercising his functions as mayor and with “the intention of attacking his physical integrity”.

The aggression caused the councillor to drop his glasses, which were broken by the blow, and the victim suffered minor injuries that required six days of treatment.
