The Guardia Civil has investigated two hunters after being caught hunting without permission in a private reserve in Torre Pacheco (Murcia) and in closed season, so they have been instructed proceedings as alleged perpetrators of crime relating to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals (crime of hunting), as reported by sources of the Benemérita in a statement.

The actions took place a few days ago, as part of the services planned and carried out by the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Guardia Civil, with the aim of preventing crimes against flora and fauna, specifically the exercise of poaching in the form of greyhound hunting.

In one of these devices that was being carried out in the municipality of Pacheco, a Patrol of Nature Protection surprised a man who had released four greyhounds that he was carrying in the boot of his vehicle to hunt a hare.

The following day, in the same place, while the SEPRONA civil guards were carrying out another device set up for the same purpose, another neighbouring man was detected moving within the hunting ground with three greyhounds in hunting action running after another hare.

The two hunters have been investigated and proceedings have been instituted against them as alleged perpetrators of a crime relating to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals (hunting crime), for hunting on privately owned hunting land without authorisation and hunting during the closed season.

In addition, reports have been made to both the investigated persons and to several companions for infringements detected in the areas of Animal Protection, Animal Health and General Vehicle Regulations, among others.

Due to the orography of the terrain and the change from irrigated to dry land in the area, in Torre Pacheco there is land used for hunting with greyhounds, which means that amateurs go there to carry out this activity illegally and cause damage to agricultural land, sometimes even confronting the owners of the hunting grounds and the owners of the farms.

The suspects, who have numerous previous convictions for similar acts, have been placed at the disposal of the San Javier Magistrates’ Court.
