The Ministry of Transport, through the Director General of Planning and Evaluation of the Railway Network Casimiro Iglesias Pérez, has confirmed the delay in the work of the Informative Study for the reopening of the Guadix Baza Almanzora Lorca railway line (Lorca-Guadix Railway Corridor). In this Informative Study, whose service contract was signed with the temporary joint venture (UTE) TPFGetinsa-Subterra last January 10th, Phase 0 «Preliminary study of environmental and economic technical feasibility» should have been completed months ago, but it has not been finished yet.
Amigos del Ferrocarril Comarca de Baza and Comarca de Guadix por el Tren are concerned about this delay, especially when they state that it has been proved (technical reports, FERRMED studies, University of Granada, Mediterranean Corridor,…) that the reopening of this line is not only feasible but profitable in economic and social terms, as well as very necessary for the whole southeast of the peninsula. Both railway collectives remind that it is essential that the Informative Study of reopening (positive, obviously) is sent to Brussels before the end of 2024, so that these works can be financed up to 80% with the funds that the European Union allocates to the Rail Corridors.
