The renovation of the bike lane that runs from Paseo Colón to San Javier, along Avenida Mediterráneo and Aviación Española has involved an investment of 240,000 euros.

The bike lane linking Santiago de la Ribera, from the Club Nautico, to San Javier, passing through the IES Mar Menor, has been the subject of a remodeling work on a total of 2.5 kilometres of lane, in which the City Council of San Javier has invested 240,000 euros, including the renewal of asphalt in a section of 6,000 square meters of the Avenida del Mediterráneo.

The Mayor, José Miguel Luengo and the Councillor for Public Services, María Dolores Ruiz, visited the works which “provide greater road safety and enhance a mobility system, cycling, which is increasingly used in our municipality,” said Luengo. A total of 2.5 kilometres of cycle lanes have been remodelled, including new horizontal and vertical signage which will be identical along the entire route, reinforcing safety at junctions.

The remodelled cycle lane runs from the seafront along Calle Luis Federico Guirao along Avenida Mediterráneo until it reaches the Cuatro Picos crossroads, where it branches off at Cabo Roche and connects with IES Mar Menor or along Avenida Aviación Española until the Local Police roundabout in San Javier, where it connects with the new section included in the remodelling work on the avenue that connects it with Parque Almansa.

The works are part of a programme of renovation of the existing cycle lanes in the municipality, in addition to the newly created ones such as the one on Avenida Aviación Española, and those to be built on Avenida de Balsicas and the main street of Pozo Aledo. As for the renovation work on the existing lanes, it will continue along Calle Río Benamor, which will make it easier to reach the sports centre by connecting the lane from Avenida Mediterráneo, at the Cuatro Picos junction, with the newly remodelled section on Calle Monasterio de Las Palmas in the direction of the sports centre.
