The San Isidro bridge in Huércal-Overa shortens deadlines and will be a reality at the beginning of 2023
The deputy for Public Works and the mayor of the municipality have visited the work financed by the Provincial Council’s Provincial Plans.

The San Isidro bridge in Huércal – Overa, which is one of the main accesses to the municipality, is in the process of being renovated through the construction of a new viaduct and the arrangement of the surroundings of the N-340. The project, financed through the Provincial Council’s Provincial Plans, is progressing at a great pace and is scheduled for completion in February next year.

The councillor for Public Works, Antonio Jesús Rodríguez, and the mayor, Domingo Fernández, visited the area around this emblematic bridge to check in situ the state of the work being carried out. This “historic” work will put an end to the accident rate of a black spot on the roads and at the same time recover this area and this viaduct for the use of the people of Huercal. The procedures to carry out the project were initiated by the government team in 2012 and are currently at an advanced stage.

The objectives of this project are the complete renovation of the northwest access to Huércal-Overa, the elimination of this black spot and the decongestion of traffic in the area with future links that give access to the reference hospital of the region: La Inmaculada. To achieve this, a new bridge will be built for vehicle traffic and the old one will be used only for pedestrians and cyclists. Two new roundabouts will be built to regulate traffic and the San Isidro bridge will be enhanced at a monumental level.

Antonio Jesús Rodríguez, the councillor for Development, stressed that “this work is one of the most important for the municipality because it puts an end to one of the main demands of the residents and improves accessibility on one of the arteries most used by vehicles and cyclists. The San Isidro Bridge will be a reality at the beginning of next year. This work, together with the new access road to the Hospital de La Inmaculada and the construction of a roundabout at another of the accesses, are making Huércal-Overa the regional epicentre of the Almanzora and Levante Almeriense”.

The mayor, Domingo Fernandez, has highlighted the good progress of the works “of this important project for our municipality which will put an end to the accident rate of this black spot on the roads of the municipality while recovering this environment and this viaduct for the use of the people of Huercal”. When the works began, the completion date was set for Spring 2023, “a deadline which, depending on the pace of the work, may be even lower, as we have been informed by the company that they have already completed the phase of construction of the abutments and placement of the neoprenes of the new bridge of San Isidro. In the next few weeks the beams will begin to be installed. So it is expected to be finished by February, fulfilling together with the Provincial Council the commitment made to our neighbours, making this historic project a reality and building together the best Huércal-Overa”.
