The Guardia Civil and the National Police have carried out an investigation related to drug trafficking that has led to the dismantling of an indoor plantation in Cartagena (Murcia), which housed more than 200 marijuana plants in the final stages of growth, according to police sources in a statement.
Following the operation, investigators have arrested the person in charge of the illicit plantation as the alleged perpetrator of the offences of defrauding electricity, theft of a vehicle, against public health – for cultivation or processing of drugs and drug trafficking – and forgery of documents.
As part of the collaboration between the two forces, an operation was opened to investigate criminal acts related to drug trafficking in the municipality.

The first investigations led the investigators to an industrial warehouse in the Cartagena district of La Aparecida, where a large-scale illegal cannabis cultivation had apparently been set up.
The surveillance operation revealed the initial evidence and also revealed that the building under investigation gave off a strong smell of marijuana.
Once all the necessary evidence had been obtained, the person responsible for the plantation was located and arrested in a joint and coordinated manner, and the industrial building was searched, where it was found that it housed all the necessary infrastructure for the processing and cultivation of cannabis sativa.
During the search, 257 cannabis plants were seized in an advanced state of flowering, ready for imminent harvesting, as well as 2.7 kilos of marijuana buds already dried and ready for sale. In addition, other items related to the illicit activity were seized, such as a precision scale, mincers and grinders, packaging machines and all the items that made up the indoor greenhouse, such as lighting, ventilation, heating and irrigation devices.
The investigators found that the clandestine greenhouse had an illegal connection to the electricity supply and that there was a van in the industrial building that was listed as having been stolen several years ago in Madrid.
The arrested person, the seized drugs, the seized effects and the proceedings have been handed over to the Magistrate’s Court of Cartagena.
