Rehabilitation work on roads in the Almanzora region

Rehabilitation work on roads in the Almanzora region
The regional minister for Public Works and Transport visited the asphalt work on the A-399.

The territorial delegate for Development, Territorial Coordination and Housing, Carmen Belén López Zapata, together with the mayors of the municipalities of Oria and Partaloa, Marcos Reche Galera and María Joaquina López García, respectively, have visited the asphalt surfacing works on the A-399, one of the five actions included in the Annual Road Maintenance Investment Programme in the province of Almería. The works being carried out by the Junta are for the rehabilitation of the existing road surface by reinforcing the asphalt pavement, which began in the last week of October and will continue until the second half of November. The total investment amounts to 442,500 euros.

The work visited on the A-399 is being carried out on the stretch from kilometre point 9+520 to 13+060 and specific work on kilometres 4.6, 7 and 14. The first is a reinforcement of the road surface over three and a half kilometres, which completes those carried out previously on this road and which has allowed, in recent years, the complete improvement of the road surface of this important road which connects the regions of Almanzora and Los Vélez. The rest of the work is very localised in order to repair various deficiencies. The work will be carried out in the Partaloa and Oria municipal districts, with 3,300 tonnes of bituminous mix to be applied.

The other actions are concentrated on the A-92N motorway, on the Vélez Rubio bypass, between kilometre points 106 and 107, where 930 tonnes of bituminous mix will be used to correct the deflection of the road surface, restoring the original gradient in order to improve safety.

Likewise, on the A-334 road, at kilometre points 33+300, in the municipality of Serón, 42+200, in the municipality of Armuña del Almanzora and 74+300, in the municipality of Arboleas. In all cases, these are specific repairs to the road surface (structural exhaustion, exudations and deflections). It is estimated that the repairs as a whole will involve 185 tonnes of bituminous mix.

Finally, on the A-1204 access road to the municipality of Albox, at kilometre point 1+500. It consists of the recovery of the original gradient, after the damage caused by the rains last March, which caused the partial collapse of the existing embankment, generating a pronounced drop in the gradient of the right lane. It is estimated that the repair will involve some 150 tonnes of bituminous mix. And on the A-332 road, from kilometre point 12+320 to 12+800, where 485 tonnes of bituminous mix is planned to correct the deflection of the road surface, restoring the original gradient in order to improve safety.

At each of the action points, lane or work area cuts will be carried out, as well as the milling of the surfaces necessary for the execution of the joints and the most damaged sections where the current road surface is totally exhausted. An application of asphalt emulsion type ECR-1 used in adherence irrigation and subsequent paving with hot asphalt agglomerate, with bitumen type B35/50, will also be carried out. The bituminous mix will be spread by pre-profiling in the areas that have been re-surfaced and then the wearing course will be completely paved. Finally, road markings will be painted to replace the existing ones.

The territorial delegate for Development, Carmen Belén López, pointed out that “with these works we are anticipating possible problems that may be caused by the rains, leaving the pavement in an optimum state to face the winter season with safety guarantees”.

The delegate stressed the importance of road safety “to keep roads, bridges and tunnels in good condition and thus save lives”. In this respect, she pointed out that the road network must respond to the demands of society, to enable economic development and the structuring of the territory, but “it must also be safe not only for drivers, but also for cyclists and pedestrians”.
