Neighbours from the towns of Albox, Taberno, Oria, Chirivel and Vélez Rubio, gathered this Sunday on the esplanade of the Santuario del Saliente against the current route of the 400kv line as it passes through the Sierra de la Estancias, which “will cause a significant visual impact, affect the land where almonds are grown and affect religious tourism”.
Neighbourhood opposition to the construction of the 400 kv overhead transmission line with towers more than 80 metres high through virgin territory such as the Sierra de las Estancias, includes a complaint to the European Union.
At Sunday’s event, which was also attended by municipal authorities from the aforementioned municipalities, Julia Garcia of the platform Salvemos la Sierra de las Estancias read out a manifesto against the current route of the 400 kV line.
At the end of the event, there was a traditional dance by the school of Los Cerricos and the Cuadrilla del Saliente, followed by a convivial meal at the Sanctuary’s guesthouse.
