On the occasion of the 38th anniversary of the closure of the Guadix Baza Almanzora Lorca railway line, which will take place this coming December 31st, the groups Asociación Amigos del Ferrocarril Comarca de Baza, Comarca de Guadix por el Tren and Revuelta de la España Vaciada are launching a contest called «Letters to the President for the return of the train» in primary and secondary schools in the regions of the former railway line.
The aim is for students to write letters to the President of the Government explaining why (from their point of view) the train should return to these «emptied» areas, and asking him to do everything possible to achieve it. In this way, the aim is to involve, in a symbolic way, the new generations in this social demand, the need for infrastructures and measures against depopulation. At the same time, the claim is kept alive permanently, at a time when the Informative Study for the reopening of the line is behind schedule.
The collectives are committed to send to the Presidency of the Government all the letters received until December 19th by e-mail to vueltadeltren@gmail.com. Moreover, the best letters will be awarded in the traditional act for the train on December 31st, at 12 noon, in the old station of Baza.
