The municipality of Olula del Río inaugurates its Nativity Scene with great passion.
The blessing ceremony took place last Thursday, the day of the Immaculate Conception at 5 p.m. in the Cultural Centre, where many members of the Brotherhood were present, as well as the municipal corporation, the faithful, neighbours and visitors.
The Mayor Antonio Martínez Pascual praised the value of Christmas since its origin in a humble portal in Bethlehem, thanking «the effort that the Brotherhood of the Passion and especially Ivan and Angel have made so that Olula has a great Bethlehem».

The parish priest Antonio María García Martínez blessed the Nativity Scene of the Brotherhood of the Passion, a reference point for Christmas in Olula del Río, which can be visited free of charge until the 5th of January.
After the Mayor’s words, it was the turn of the Elder Brother, Ángel Martos Cayuela, who pointed out that a traditional Nativity Scene had been created «with the aim of evangelising through the memories of the place where the birth of Jesus of Nazareth took place. To do this we have represented the movement of Bethlehem in those times. You can contemplate landscapes and towns inspired by the events recorded in the Gospel, as well as mysteries surrounding the life of Jesus».
In this Nativity Scene, Martos said, «we wanted to capture our town, our people and our traditions, with a nod to the things that most identify us and represent us, such as the Church of San Sebastián, the Cañico or the Woman of the Almanzora, among others. We also honour the guild that gives name and life to our region, the marble».
He ended his speech by thanking the Parish Priest and the Olula del Río Town Council for «making a firm commitment and continuing to maintain our customs and traditions».
The Nativity Scene was then blessed and the ribbon was tied.
Visiting hours will be from 11:00 – 13:30 and from 17:00 to 20:00 until January 5th, except on December 25th and January 1st.
