The Guardia Civil has developed in Águilas the operation ‘Doctor 22’, which has dismantled a point of illicit production of marijuana enabled in a house in the town centre of the municipality, as reported by sources of the Armed Institute in a statement.

Following the operation, the Benemérita has arrested the four members of the criminal group as alleged perpetrators of a crime against public health, for cultivation or processing of drugs, and fraud of electricity, for an illegal connection to the supply to provide energy to the greenhouse.

The proceedings began last summer, thanks to the collaboration of the public, when specialists in Judicial Police of the Guardia Civil opened the operation to investigate a series of suspicions about a house in the municipality of Aguileño which, apparently, was being used as an indoor greenhouse for the cultivation and subsequent manipulation of cannabis.

As the investigation centred on the property developed, the Civil Guards identified a group of people who were allegedly behind the criminal acts under investigation.

Once all the necessary evidence had been obtained, the Guardia Civil carried out the operational phase of the operation in which, following judicial authorisation, they entered and searched the house where they found and dismantled a clandestine greenhouse dedicated to the illicit cultivation of marijuana.

The civil guards seized more than 200 cannabis plants and more than 5 kilograms of marijuana buds in the process of drying and ready for imminent sale, as well as several doses of cocaine. They also seized all the elements that made up the indoor greenhouse, such as sophisticated lighting, irrigation, heating and ventilation devices.

The search culminated in the arrest of the four suspects as alleged perpetrators of a crime against public health, for the cultivation or processing of drugs, and the crime of defrauding the electricity supply, as the greenhouse had an illegal connection to the electricity supply.

From the analysis of the information obtained during the investigation and the devices seized, it can be deduced that the marijuana cultivation capacity of the criminal group now dismantled could exceed one thousand plants per year.

During the course of the operation, the Guardia Civil has had the collaboration of the Local Police of Águilas.

The detainees, the drugs seized, the effects seized and the proceedings have been placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction of Lorca.

SECOND OPERATION AGAINST THE CULTIVATION OF MARIJUANA IN A WEEK
This is the second anti-drug operation related to the illicit cultivation of cannabis carried out in recent days by the Guardia Civil on the coast of Murcia.

Last week, members of the Guardia Civil’s Citizen Security Prevention Unit dismantled a greenhouse in the Cartagena district of Los Urrutias with more than half a thousand marijuana plants in a single-family home and arrested the person who ran it as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of drug trafficking, cultivation or processing of drugs and defrauding electricity.
