The Provincial Council of Almeria has held the ceremony of delivery of 15 dumpers and sweepers to 15 municipalities in the province of Almeria with the aim of covering the most basic needs of municipalities with less than 3,500 inhabitants in terms of maintenance and cleaning. This is the second time that this pioneering measure has materialised with an investment of 500,000 euros to cover basic cleaning services and minor works.
The Moisés Ruiz Pavilion esplanade was the venue for the ceremony in which the President of the Almería Provincial Council, Javier A. García, accompanied by the Vice-President, Fernando Giménez, handed over the keys and documentation for the 8 dumpers and 7 sweepers which, as of today, have become municipal equipment to the mayors of the 15 beneficiary municipalities.
The municipalities that have new sweepers are: Enix, Velefique, Lúcar, Instinción, Líjar, Íllar and Ohanes; while the dumpers have been assigned to the towns of Alboloduy, Laroya, Partaloa, Laujar, Purchena, Oria, Sorbas and Huécija.

«Today, with this measure, we are highlighting the spirit with which the Provincial Institution was born 200 years ago: to help the municipalities. Today we are making the second delivery of machinery, consolidating a pioneering measure that aims to improve services to citizens and equal opportunities for all Almeria, said Javier A. García.
In this sense, he recalled that «this plan that we started 3 years ago, is the result of the commitment of the Provincial Council to equal opportunities among the people of Almeria and to provide better services to smaller municipalities and those with less investment capacity. It is an effective way to fight against depopulation, so that residents living in a municipality like Huécija have the same services they would find in the capital of Almería».
Similarly, he mentioned some of the measures carried out by the Provincial Council of Almeria for «the development of small municipalities and the fixation of the population in the territory: «The Municipal Roads Plan, the Sports Facilities Plan, the comprehensive management of the PFEA to improve our villages, the Cashiers Plan or aid such as those promoted through ‘Anfitriones-Diego García, the aid plan for municipalities of less than 1,000 inhabitants that this year will distribute more than 1 million euros».
Almost 40 vehicles delivered
Since the Diputación promoted this pioneering measure 1,000 days ago, a total of 37 municipalities have new machinery. These 15 dumpers and sweepers are in addition to the 21 that the president delivered on 20 January 2020 in this same scenario.
Both deliveries have meant an investment of 1 million euros so that the following municipalities will be able to use these vehicles for the first time to boost the most basic municipal services: Bacares, Fuente Victoria, Bédar, María, Bentarique, Chercos, Senés, Rágol, Urrácal, Nacimiento, Alboloduy Laroya, Partaloa, Laujar de Andarax, Purchena, Oria, Sorbas and Huécija; as well as Olula de Castro, Alcóntar, Benitagla, Alcudia de Monteagud, Almócita, Bayarque, Turrillas, Tahal, Paterna del Río, Lucainena de las Torres, Fines, Enix, Velefique, Lúcar, Instinción, Líjar, Íllar and Ohanes.
