The traditional race ‘XVI San Silvestre de Albox, Memorial María Carmona’ of approximately 4.4 kilometres, will be held next Monday 26th; a race which is organised by the Cultural and Sports Association ‘Somos Albojenses’ with the collaboration of the Sports Department of the Town Hall of Albox.
As a novelty this year, two categories of veterans have been maintained. The prizes will not be cumulative.
Registration can be done online through the website https://montureventos.com/ and «we also maintain the refreshments on arrival at the finish line and there will be a timer in the San Silvestre so that we will get classifications and times instantly» say the organisers of the event.

The route:
The race will start from the Sports Pavilion of Albox. In this way, the members of the categories minis, benjamín, alevín, infantil, junior, senior and veterans A and veterans B, will meet in this place. The first four categories will run a closed circuit on the Avenida Lepanto in Albox and the remaining categories, i.e. juvenile, senior and veterans will complete a distance of 4.4 kilometres through the streets of the town, a route that will have a single lap, which as every year runs through the three emblematic neighbourhoods of our town: El Barrio Alto, El Pueblo and La Loma.
This year one of the novelties is that the traditional route has been slightly changed, incorporating some new streets, extending the route from 4 kms to 4.4 kms.
There will be a wide range of security measures to cut off all the streets of Albox where the race takes place, coordinated between the Local Police with Civil Protection and the volunteers of the race, however, the marathon runs through the 3 districts of the municipality in a single lap, all wrapped in a festive atmosphere as is this race.
The race will start at 11.00 a.m. on the 26th of December, from the municipal pavilion ‘Las Ventas’, located on Avenida Lepanto in the town of Albox, starting with the mini categories, followed by the other categories.
The San Silvestre Albojense does not lose its character of Solidarity race:
The inscriptions will consist of the contribution of non-perishable products that will be destined to Caritas, in addition to the payment of 5 euros for the categories from junior to veterans (3 euros will go entirely to Albox Cancer Association), being free registration for the categories of prebenjamines to infants.
There will also be a ‘Runner 0’, so if anyone, even if they are not participating, wants to collaborate in the solidarity initiative, they can bring food to the registration area of the race. All the food collected will be donated to Caritas at the end of the race.
Registrations can already be made online through the website https://montureventos.com/events/san-silvestre-albojense-2022/ until Friday 23-12-2022 at noon.
To be eligible for the gifts and prizes, athletes must be registered and finish the race, wearing their corresponding runner’s race bib.
There will be a commemorative T-shirt plus a surprise gift for the first 300 registered runners, which will be handed out on the day of the race by the organisers.
There will be a final individual classification by categories (minis, benjamines, alevines, infants, juniors, seniors, veterans and local) for both men and women.
The race is very popular and the number of participants in fancy dress has increased year after year:
The president of «Somos Albojenses», Diego Carrillo Granero, has coincided in highlighting «the marked popular and supportive nature of the race, taking into account the current difficult times» and invites you to participate and spend a Sunday morning doing sport in harmony. The race organisers state that «trophies have been planned to encourage participation from the youngest to the most veteran runners».
Being a provincial reference of the San Silvestres, being a route of only 4.5kms encourages everyone to participate in it.
«From the Town Hall of Albox, we encourage both Albojenses and other citizens of neighbouring towns to participate in the same, what better way to end the year running and having fun with family and friends» said Francisco Torrecillas, Mayor of Albox.
Prizes and Trophies.
As every year the Albox ceramics will be very present in the trophy ceremony, at the end of it will proceed to the delivery of the same. There will be trophies for the first three classified in each category, either male or female, making a total of 16 categories.
The trophies awarded this year «are replicas of the Arab turret of Terdiguera» and are given with the aim of raising awareness of the historical importance that these fortresses have had and still have in our region», says Javier Alfonso Aránega of Somos Albojenses.
In addition to the first 3 classified in the general male and female category will be presented with trophies and prizes in kind consisting of a shoulder for the first classified and assorted Iberian for the 2nd and 3rd. The recreational part of the race will also be enhanced and the runner and/or group of runners with the best costumes will be awarded with several shoulder of ham and Christmas gifts.
«Year after year we have seen a notable increase in the number of people who dress up in fancy dress, giving a touch of joy and colour to the race», says the councillor for sports, Virginia Sáez, which is why we are once again calling on people to continue with this Christmas tradition.
