The Provincial Council of Almeria has consolidated its position in 2022 as a pioneering institution thanks to its firm commitment to the protection of women victims and the fight against gender violence.
Once again this year, the role played by the Equality Area through the resources available to women victims and their children has been fundamental in improving their quality of life and putting an end to the risk of exclusion.
In the 12 months of 2022, the Provincial Council has offered individualised attention to 285 women victims of gender violence in the province. In addition, the Social Resources Section for Women, together with the Legal Department of Gender Violence of the Provincial Institution, has carried out a total of 3,492 interventions in the prevention of violence against women in psychological, legal and social care.
These 285 women have received personalised advice from the specialists of the Equality Area of the Almeria Provincial Council. Through the victim helplines – 900713535 / 681000016 – information on gender violence is provided and requests for admission to the Immediate Attention Centre, CAI, made by the Security Forces and Corps, Courts or Town Councils, are attended to.
Up to 31 December 2022, 50 women and 28 minors have been admitted to the CAI. The CAI is an emergency resource available 24 hours a day, which provides women victims of abuse with the possibility of breaking with the situation of violence in which they live. Since its opening in April 1999, the centre has taken in 1,335 women, 1,269 minors and 8 family members, a total of 2,609 people.
The Deputy for Equality, Carmen Nuria Rodríguez, pointed out that “the Almería Provincial Council works alongside the whole of society, all Almerians and the rest of the institutions to eradicate any type of violence against women. It is a joint task in which we spare neither resources nor efforts. We are with the victims, providing care, advice and tools to overcome this situation as soon as possible and with all the guarantees. We offer a comprehensive service to prevent, avoid and put an end to situations of gender violence in the province”.
Along these lines, the deputy highlighted other initiatives that the Provincial Council makes available to women, such as the Victim Recovery Programme, which is provided at the CAI itself. This consists of non-permanent residential care with the aim of helping women to recover and normalise their situation.
Finally, within the residential assistance provided by the Provincial Council to victims, there are supervised flats that function as a functional and temporary home for women who do not fully require the treatment provided by the Victim Recovery Programme. This year, the sheltered flats have taken in 7 women and 6 minors.
In the same way, the Almeria Provincial Council undertakes a series of programmes carried out in the sheltered resources to guarantee the reconciliation of family, work and personal life of the sheltered women, who are provided with the support of the women and children care assistants during their stay. This allows the mothers to attend appointments with the multidisciplinary team, resolve formalities and participate in activities, workshops, courses, work…
These workshops include psycho-social group support, support for minors and women in the network, school support, support for knowledge of our language, employment, or interpreter-translation.
Likewise, the Provincial Council has processed the implementation of 23 teleprotection devices and has monitored 76 women during 2026.
