The resident of Albox, Martín Sánchez, has been rescued after falling into a sinkhole in the Sierra de Enmedio in the area of Almendricos (Pulpí).
His family and friends raised the alarm on Friday when Martín went out early in the morning to run in the mountains and did not respond to calls. This Albojense neighbour, a running and potholing enthusiast, had gone out on a route on Christmas Day, as he usually did.
As he was alone, it was the geolocator on his mobile phone that enabled his whereabouts to be found in just a few hours.
At around 11 p.m. a group of friends and family, accompanied by the Civil Guard, went to the point marked by the geolocator. And shortly before one o’clock in the morning they found him inside a chasm. According to Reportes News, stones had fallen on him, preventing him from getting out.
Martín Sánchez was taken to the hospital in Lorca where he was admitted with damage to his leg and back, which in principle is not serious.
