The San Javier Town Hall has today opened the deadline for the submission of applications for aid for the adaptation of buildings and facilities in the private sector in order to minimise flood damage. The aid, which may benefit individuals, legal entities and communities and associations of property owners, can be applied for until 27 March at the Town Hall of San Javier. The Mayor, José Miguel Luengo and the Councillor for Public Services, María Dolores Ruiz, today presented the call for grants endowed with 300,000 euros which includes both new works and those that have been carried out since 2019 and fit the bases of the call.
José Miguel Luengo stressed the importance of this aid for the private sector and underlined the need to reach all residents, for which the Town Hall has dedicated a section with information on the call for grants on the municipal website and has called an information meeting for Wednesday 18 January in the assembly hall. An official will be available throughout the process to provide information and technical advice to citizens on how to obtain this aid, in the Public Services Department, where interested parties should call in advance. They will also be able to resolve doubts via a mobile phone number that will be made available in the next few days through the municipal media.
“The fight against the effects of flooding requires solutions at source, rainwater collectors and other public works, as well as this type of specific self-protection actions, to which this aid is directed,” said the mayor, José Miguel Luengo. Among the eligible actions are the purchase of barriers, drainage pumps and non-return valves, waterproofing works, construction or improvement of perimeter walls and relocation of electrical panels or boilers, among others. The criteria for the assessment will be based on economic and social vulnerability, the height of water above ground level to be protected and the location of the property, parking spaces below ground level or having suffered damage in previous floods.
The amount of aid is already assessed according to the action to be carried out as described in the bases of the state call, which also provides a grant of 600 euros for technical assistance that may be required for the action. Applications will be resolved in the order in which they are received at the Town Hall and interested parties will have a maximum period of three months to carry out the subsidised work from the moment it is granted.
The call for subsidies for works against floods in the private sector, are part of the direct grant of 600,000 euros received by the City Council of San Javier, granted by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, which includes the municipalities most affected by the latest floods. According to the nature of these subsidies, the allocation for San Javier is 50 percent, with 300,000 euros, to the private sector; 240,000 for public works against floods to be carried out by the San Javier Town Council and 60,000 to finance a technical team that will be responsible for managing the aid.
