The Plenary of the Provincial Council approves the management model for the future Museum of Contemporary Spanish Realism

The Plenary of the Provincial Council approves the management model for the future Museum of Contemporary Spanish Realism
It will be managed by the Ibáñez Cosentino Art Foundation.

This morning the Provincial Council held an Extraordinary Plenary Session with a single point. The Institution approved the management model for the public service of the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Realism (MUREC), which will open its doors in the former Santa María Magdalena Provincial Hospital in the first half of this year.

The management model of the MUREC will be indirect, i.e. a service contract will be awarded to the Ibáñez Cosentino Art Foundation to set up the museum with works from its collection. The studies and technical reports of the Provincial Institution determine that this form of management is the most efficient.

The knowledge, experience and trajectory of the Ibáñez Cosentino Art Foundation guarantee the provision of exhibition, conservation and cultural projection services, as well as the maintenance of the highest quality content of the MUREC.

The vice-president and spokesman for the government team explained that “today we have taken another decisive step towards making one of the Diputación’s most important projects a reality and the culmination of the comprehensive refurbishment of the Provincial Hospital, the creation of the MUREC. The formula chosen for its management is the most efficient for all the people of Almeria and that is why it has been chosen for its implementation. It will guarantee the implementation of a museum that will be a national and international reference”.

In this sense, the spokesman has valued that “the Foundation is committed from the origins of the idea with the project, with the support of two figures as influential and admired in the national art as Antonio López and Andrés García Ibáñez, and have demonstrated their management skills through the spectacular work they develop in museum spaces such as the Museo Casa Ibáñez or the Museo de Arte de Almería. The Museum now has 217 pieces that the Foundation has made available to the public, demonstrating its generosity and commitment to the people of Almería”.

Finally, Giménez stressed that the Foundation “will give the definitive impulse to the MUREC, which aspires to become in a short period of time the maximum national exponent, as it will be the first museum in the country focused exclusively on this artistic aspect of contemporary Spanish realism. The MUREC will place Almeria and the rest of the province at the forefront of the country’s cultural destinations, being, in turn, a powerful attraction that will encourage tourism in our destination.

In the last plenary session of 2022, the creation of the Public Service and the Ordinance that will govern the MUREC was approved, which specifies the opening hours and public access or form of remuneration, among other aspects. The ordinance also offers a wide variety of activities for cultural dissemination and promotion, thus maximising the use of a building of special historical value and emotional weight for the people of Almeria.

Extension of the open days to visit the Hospital

Due to the success of the guided tours of the Santa María Magdalena Provincial Hospital, organised by the Provincial Council with the aim of giving the people of Almeria an in-depth knowledge of the restoration of the building, the Institution has extended the open days until 17 January.

Until that date, anyone wishing to attend one of these guided tours will be able to do so in the morning and afternoon. So far more than 2,300 people from Almeria have taken part in the visits and it is expected that this figure will exceed 3,500 by the end of the event.

Registration to visit the Hospital can be made by calling 950 08 92 98 or by emailing visitasguiadas@dipalme.org.
