The press room of the Moisés Ruiz Pavilion hosted the presentation of a new regional sporting event that will come to the province of Almería for the second consecutive year. The Andalusian ‘Campo a través’ Championship returns to the town of Huércal-Overa on Sunday 15th January for a weekend in which sport and tourism go hand in hand.
In this way, the province of Almería continues to consolidate itself as one of the best places in the world for outdoor sports. On this occasion, the best athletes in Andalusia will meet at 9am tomorrow at the train station in Huércal-Overa to enjoy a day in which both young and old will be able to enjoy the natural landscapes that make up the Greenway of the municipality.
The Deputy for Sports and Youth, José Antonio García, has highlighted one of the most important aspects of this championship, which is the place where it will be held. “The Town Hall is making the most of the Vía Verde because it is a privileged area that we have in Almería. Events such as this one relaunch the figure of sport as an agent of social and economic dynamism in the municipalities of the interior”.

For his part, the Mayor of Huércal-Overa, Domingo Fernández, invited all the people of Almería to come along this weekend to spend a pleasant and sporting day with their families. “We are very excited to continue hosting top level events in Andalusia and we hope to continue working with the Federation and the Provincial Council to make our municipality a great choice among the sporting events”.
Finally, the president of the Andalusian Athletics Federation, Enrique López, highlighted that “we welcome from the U12 category to runners over 70 years old, with more than 800 registered participants in this event. The economic and sporting impact is quite high for the province and I am sure that many of these athletes will be able to discover the wonders hidden in the inland villages”.
