Costa de Almería' travels to FITUR 2023 with the richest and most diverse tourism offer in Mediterranean Europe
An intense agenda of meetings with tour operators and travel agencies will be the focus of activity.

The Almería Provincial Council is once again returning to FITUR, the International Tourism Trade Fair in Madrid, with the aim of reinforcing the ‘Costa de Almería’ as a fashionable destination and one of the most sought-after places for European travellers. From 18 to 22 January, the quality and diversity of the best tourism offer in Mediterranean Europe will once again dazzle visitors to Pavilion 5, where the entire Andalusian tourism offer is concentrated.

The stand of ‘Costa de Almería’ will have in its 43rd edition with almost thirty institutional presentations and tourism companies, in addition to the intense meetings with professionals, tour operators and travel agencies to further promote the destination of Almeria.

Presentation of the ‘Carmen Awards’ at FITUR

The main event of Diputación and ‘Costa de Almería’ at FITUR will be a new milestone in the idyll that the province of Almería and cinema have maintained for more than 70 years. The national presentation of the ‘Carmen Awards’ of the Andalusian Film Academy will turn the Almeria stand into the epicentre of the country’s film industry.

This presentation, which will take place on the 18th at 11.40 a.m., will be attended by numerous actors and professionals from the country’s audiovisual sector, among them: Petra Martínez, the Almerian Manuel Martín Cuenca, Gracia Querejeta, Elena Furiase and Nuria Fergó, among a long list of artists, directors and producers in love with the light of Almeria and the locations that have made it immortal in the seventh art.

Those attending the presentation of the ‘Carmen Awards’ will learn all the details of the gala to be held on February 4 in Almería, which will bring together more than 300 professionals from the audiovisual industry to reward the best Andalusian films.

This new link between Almeria and cinema will enhance a history of more than 500 film shoots and an Almeria International Film Festival (FICAL) that is already recognised worldwide for the quality of its Opera Prima and ‘Almeria en Corto’ competitions.

The second edition of the ‘Carmen Awards’ will feature two exceptional presenters, Belén Cuesta and Salva Reina, and an Award of Honour for the prestigious and beloved actress María Galiana.

The Deputy for Tourism, Fernando Giménez, stated that “we are travelling to FITUR with the hope of continuing to surprise the tourism industry with an offer that is characterised by the excellence, diversity and quality offered by the province with the most hours of sunshine on the European continent. We have the backing of the municipalities, organisations and companies that will be presenting their projects so that tourism can continue to grow, and an extensive agenda of professional meetings that will surely lead to agreements that will allow us to grow in current markets and create new alliances.

Also, on the presentation of ‘Costa de Almería’, the deputy said that “in this edition we wanted to strengthen the link with a sector that creates jobs and wealth before, during and after the shootings because they are a reason for visitors to know the locations of the province. If Almería is the largest outdoor set in the world, it is because of its landscapes and the great professionals it has”.

Finally, Giménez remarked that “the tourism sector is one of our main economic and productive pillars, as well as our great calling card to the world. From the Provincial Council we will continue to promote the destination ‘Costa de Almería’ at national and international level with new promotional campaigns that will result in a greater influx of visitors and that, as soon as possible, we recover the positive figures we had before the pandemic.

A starring space in Pavilion 5

The ‘Costa de Almería’ stand at the new edition of FITUR will once again have a leading role within Turismo Andaluz with the rest of the offer from all the provinces of Andalusia. Across 305 square metres of exhibition space, Almería will show the world its quality tourism in a stand that has a customer service area, a multimedia space for presentations that can be followed live on the ‘Costa de Almería’ social networks, and another area for business meetings.

The large-format images illustrating the Almeria display at this year’s edition summarise the main attractions that visitors can find in the land of the Indalo. Panoramic views of Genoveses Beach and the majestic views offered by the Isleta del Moro will preside over the stand, accompanied by other images by Almeria photographer Javier Lozano, which will transmit the sensations offered by our destination.

In addition to the presentations of town councils, associations and other Almerian entities representing the 103 municipalities and the smaller local entity, the Provincial Tourism Service has scheduled an extensive agenda of professional meetings with Spanish Tourist Offices (OTS), tour operators, airlines, travel agencies and online sales portals.

Finally, the province of Almeria will be present in the central Andalusia space, together with the City Council of the capital and the Regional Government of Andalusia, in the presentation of ‘Sun & Be. Blue Tourism Innovation Congress’. This is a meeting of Sun and Beach tourism professionals in the framework of the blue economy to be held at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de ‘El Toyo’ with the digitisation of the sector as the central axis.

The Diputación is firmly committed to tourism

The actions promoted by the Diputación have been decisive in bringing tourism back strongly to the province of Almería to such an extent that the records for 2019 have been surpassed in terms of national tourism.

In addition, this year the destination ‘Costa de Almería’ travels to FITUR with the great news that in 2023 a new air connection with the capital of France will be inaugurated. Paris and Almeria will be connected with three weekly frequencies.

The Diputación’s professional agenda will include meetings with the main tour operators and airlines that will improve the connectivity of the province of Almería and promote the ‘Costa de Almería’ destination.
