The province of Almería will become the epicentre of Andalusian motorsport on 28 January. The town of Macael will host the ‘Champions Awards Gala 2022’ which will bring together more than 500 guests, including the drivers, teams, clubs and institutions awarded for their contribution to the sport and their achievements during this exciting season.
The Sports Deputy, José Antonio García, praised the decision of the Andalusian Motorsport Federation to hold this great gala in the province: “There is no better place and Macael has the best mountain race in Andalusia, with more than 25,000 spectators and 45 editions behind it. It is a magnificent place to recognise the entire Mármol team and the organisation for their work and commitment to this sport”.
Similarly, he recalled that this region will host the Rally del Almanzora on 10 February, which highlights the tradition of motor racing in a province that hosts 14 events a year.
For his part, the Mayor of Macael, Raul Martinez, said that for Macael “is a very nice wink that they choose our people to celebrate this gala” and a “great recognition” to the longest running event of the Andalusian calendar. In this sense, he has valued the great return that it will mean for the municipality to receive the “caravan” of the Federation with more than 200 drivers, clubs and teams and their companions.
The President of the Federation, Manuel Alonso Borbalán, was pleased to present the most important event organised by the FAA. “The champions gala rotates around Andalusia and we have chosen the province as the venue for events that are at the forefront of motorsport and for hosting 14 events a year”.
Alonso Borbalán pointed out that this event is one of the best in terms of the route, the surroundings and the participation. He also explained that this gala will have a great direct and indirect return, with the promotion of the municipality and the region.
The event will be attended by the elite of Andalusian motor racing, more than 500 guests, including the 170 drivers who have received awards in each of the motor racing categories in Andalusia. Along with drivers, co-drivers, technical and sporting officials, the FAA Board of Directors, Andalusian racing teams and clubs, sponsors, political authorities, specialised press and personalities from the world of motor racing will also be present.
Each year this Gala is held in a different Andalusian city linked to the sport. In 2019 this event was held in Vejer de la Frontera (Cádiz), in 2020 in Úbeda (Jaén) and in 2021 in Cartaya (Huelva). This year, 2022, the municipality of Macael has been designated as the venue for one of the biggest and longest-running regional motor racing events with its traditional ‘Ascent of Marble’, which has now been held for 46 editions.
