The Andalusian Centre of Photography, managed by the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport through the Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions, is organising guided tours by the curator Juan María Rodríguez, guided tours and visits/workshops on the exhibition ‘Siquier Collection’ for adults, young people and children. This initiative, called ‘The gaze of Carlos Pérez Siquier’, aims to disseminate the figure of the renowned photographer in all his stages by touring the ‘Siquier Collection’ exhibition, a tribute to the Almerian who is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the centre. Registration for the activities is now open and those interested can apply free of charge and get information through the website www.centroandaluzdelafotografia.es or by calling 950 18 63 60/61.
The visits entitled ‘The gaze of Carlos Pérez Siquier’ form part of the CAF’s ‘Let yourself be carried away’ programme, through which it develops different guided tours of its exhibitions aimed at different audiences, with the aim of bringing its exhibitions, collections and bibliographic holdings closer to all interested people and groups, offering more and more learning opportunities.
Guided tours by the curator
Juan María Rodríguez, curator of ‘Colección Siquier’ will offer a tour of the exhibition on Saturday 4 February at 7.30 p.m. with free admission until full capacity is reached, with a maximum of 20 people so that the experience is close and participatory. No registration is required, just come 30 minutes before the start of the tour.
Guided tours for adults
Looking through the author’s photographs, the adult public will find significant reflections of our society, of local culture, and will learn and reflect on who we are, who we were, and on the multiple images that the artist produced on a social, cultural, aesthetic or historical level. This tour, guided by a cultural mediator, is scheduled for Thursdays 2, 9, 16 and 23 February at 11.30 am and 7.30 pm, and Sundays 5, 12, 19 and 26 February at 11.30 am, with prior registration.
They will last approximately 50 minutes and have a capacity of 20 people. It will be necessary to fill in the online form (individual or for a maximum of 4 people) on the official website. You can also go half an hour before the start of the visit and sign up on the spot if there are places available. For groups larger than 4 people, please contact the centre.
Visits-workshops for young people and children
For the young public, from 13 to 17 years old, and for children, from 7 to 12 years old, the CAF organises visits-workshops led by experts in arts didactics. Both groups will learn about the work of the Almería-born photographer, some of the keys to his photographic language and will learn about art through spatial experience and photography. They should bring a digital camera, mobile phone or tablet and, above all, a desire to learn and discover another point of view, that of Pérez Siquier.
The aim of the visit for teenagers is to capture the interest of this group in contemporary photography, and to achieve this they will convert their mobile devices or tablets into digital mechanisms for contemporary thought. They will analyse and interpret the images on display, reinterpreting these ideas through photography and video. The mediator will propose learning experiences that aim to be sensitive, critical, committed and supportive, rooted in autonomous thinking and affectivity.
The younger children will also tour the exhibition guided by the didactic teacher and will then use different sheets of paper with significant details of Carlos Pérez Siquier’s photographs and cardboard frames to bring them closer to concepts linked to framing and control of perspective. They will explore the abstraction of the series ‘La Chanca in colour’ by carrying out a plastic action based on collage from an active and collaborative approach.
Young people will be able to participate on Saturday 11 February at 11.30 a.m. and the youngest children will be invited to participate on 25 February at 11.30 a.m. Capacity is limited to 15 participants, with a reservation limit of three places per application. They will last between 90 and 120 minutes for both audiences.
Finally, on the occasion of Andalusia Day, the CAF is organising a special day with two more guided tours on 28 February at 11.30 am and 7.30 pm. All the details for registration will be published on the website www.centroandaluzdelafotografía.es, as well as the opening date for applications.

The exhibition consists of 92 photographs that trace the career of one of the great innovators of contemporary Spanish photography, winner of the National Photography Prize in 2003. In addition, users will have at their disposal an extensive room brochure that includes a 16-page insert with images of the author.
