The Patio de Luces of the Provincial Council of Almeria has hosted a new round table within the parallel activities that are taking place to coincide with the celebration of the Carmen Awards of the Andalusian Film Academy in Almeria, this Saturday, February 4, in the Maestro Padilla Auditorium from 22 hours.
Today’s activity consisted of a meeting between Almeria’s audiovisual professionals and members of the board of directors of the Film Academy of Andalusia. The deputy for Culture and Cinema, Almudena Morales, welcomed the audience and speakers and after her speech, the president of the Academy, Marta Velasco, the vice-president of the Academy, Enrique Iznaola and Piluca Querol, director of Andalucía Film Commission and member of the board of directors of the Academy, took the floor.
The deputy for Culture and Cinema thanked the Andalusian Film Academy for their commitment to Almería for the second edition of the Carmen Awards: «it is an unequivocal demonstration of the important role that our province plays in the Andalusian, national and international film sector. These awards will strengthen the link of our land as a cinematographic stage».

The president of the Andalusian Film Academy explained how this project was born, «an idea that needed a push to go ahead. In 2018, a group of us from the sector got together and decided that, from a base, we had to work towards having an academy. In 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, the Academy saw the light of day. Since the beginning of the Academy, Almería has wanted these awards to be held here. The Academy is the home where all Andalusian audiovisual professionals can meet and work together, we are a land of talent and this has to be known».
The vice-president highlighted the commitment of Almería and its institutions, such as the Provincial Council, Regional Government of Andalusia and the City Council, to host the Carmen Awards and stressed that «for the Academy, this type of meeting was also very important so that the professionals of the province can convey their concerns to us and so that, between us all, we can continue to promote cinema in Almería and the entire Autonomous Community».
Finally, Piluca Querol highlighted the importance of the Academy in defending the interests of the sector, as well as the figure of the producers as «the driving force of the industry». She also stated that «filmmaking is a group effort with many difficulties behind it, and an Academy was necessary to disseminate and make our work better known», and described the desert of the province of Almería as one of the most exceptional jewels in Andalusia for filming.
