The Olula del Río Town Council is starting the year with more than a dozen works underway. Precisely the last week of January saw the launch of the municipal asphalting plan by the company NILA, which has an investment of 200,000 euros and which will allow the repair of 30 streets in the municipality, including the remodelling of Cuesta El Cartero, Calle Lepanto, Camino Los Huertos, the last stretch of Calle Santiago and the Barrio Poeta Villaespesa.
«After the rains in March, the asphalt had deteriorated a lot, so we have made a selection of the most necessary to act, there are more than thirty streets that we will improve thanks to remnants that we have achieved, and this Plan is brought forward with own funds» explains the mayor of the municipality, Antonio Martínez Pascual.
In the sports facilities, Olulenses already begin to enjoy some of them, is the case of the Tennis Courts where next February 14 will begin with the Municipal School of Tennis, currently with more than 20 students enrolled, and this past weekend enjoyed a day of coexistence to inaugurate the new facilities that have involved an investment of 90,000 euros.
The improvements to the municipal swimming pool and the Sports Pavilion, which have a budget of 200,000 euros and which are progressing at a good pace; «in the swimming pool the watertightness tests are being carried out on the pool, and also the work to remodel the stands on the football pitch,» explains Pascual.
With regard to the works for the adaptation of public spaces, the remodelling of Calle San Francisco, the Mirador in Poeta Villaespesa and the Plaza del Cuartel Viejo, a two-storey square which will transform the area once the works are completed, are worthy of note.
A children’s playground is to be installed in the La Noria neighbourhood and there are plans to improve access and a new square in Urbanización Hispanidad. A package of works in different neighbourhoods and public spaces in which the Oluló Town Council is going to invest more than 400,000 euros.
At the same time, the works of the Agricultural Employment Promotion Plan (PFEA) are being carried out at the moment, with actions in the Plaza de Urbanización Venecia, actions in the Old Barracks and improvement works in the Trina Rull School; projects that have a budget of 150,000 euros. «We are acting in all areas of the town, some of these works have involved a lot of paperwork, but they are there, the important thing is that they are being done and that they are going to stay for the town. Many of them will also allow, transform and improve corners and very important facilities for the residents» adds the mayor, who does not hide his satisfaction by ensuring that «at this time we are investing more than one million euros in various works, not counting the sealing of the landfill in the Paraje La Cazalilla, which is another 1,200,000 euros which is fully funded by the Regional Government of Andalusia and we hope to finish as soon as possible, another work that is very important for our people» concludes the mayor of Olula del Río.
