
Olula del Río becomes this weekend the epicentre of motor racing, with the first of the Andalusian Championship of Asphalt and Regularity Rallies.
This Friday afternoon saw the start of the event which will pass through five municipalities in the region; Albanchez, Líjar, Chercos, Zurgena and Olula del Río. The latter was the scene of the inauguration in the Avenida Almanzora, where the 28 participating teams gathered.
«This Rally is a commitment to a sport that many residents of our province follow. It is a way of making the region and boosting the economy and the hospitality industry of the Almanzora. The teams and their followers fill our hotels and restaurants» assured the mayor of Olula del Río, Antonio Martínez Pascual, who acted as host for the ninth consecutive year.


He was accompanied at the opening ceremony by the mayors of the other municipalities that will host the event this weekend; the mayor of Albanchez, Amador López, the mayor of Líjar, Sergio Sánchez and Francisco Martínez, the mayor of Zurgen. In addition, the president of the Andalusian Automobile Federation, Manolo Alonso, the president of the organising committee, Salvador Segura and numerous locals and onlookers who did not want to miss the premiere of the event.
On Saturday the motor racing festival continues with routes that will allow the runners to pass through some of the most special corners of our region. The trophy ceremony is scheduled to take place at the football field ‘José Juan Rodríguez’ in Olula del Río.
