The Carnival of Cartagena already has its queens. Both are from the Salgueiro troupe, which won the title of both the children’s queen and the adult queen on Saturday 11 February. In the case of the adult queen, Virginia Villada won the top prize with a creation by the designer José Lisón, an allegory of the guardian of Olympus Elora.
The Queen’s Election Gala, attended by the mayoress, Noelia Arroyo, and the councillors Juan Pedro Torralba, David Martínez Noguera and Carlos Piñana, among others, did not disappoint anyone, as it was possible to see costumes almost five metres high that reflected the work, effort and splendour that characterises the Carnival of Cartagena, which continues to take firm steps towards the declaration of National Tourist Interest.
During the course of the event, recognition was given to the outgoing queen, Rosana Yepes, of the comparsa Aradia, while the president of the Carnival Federation, Eduardo Pignatelli, presented the mayoress with the gold badge of the Carnival, which she gratefully and emotionally accepted.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Gala for the election of the children’s queen was held, the title going to Irene, from the Salgueiro Kids troupe, in a costume that is a recreation of the film The Neverending Story.
The party continues this Sunday 12 February in the Wsell de Guimbarda Pavilion, where the 20th edition of the Regional Choreographic Group Competition will be held throughout the day, starting at midday with the dances of the children’s section. The adults’ choreographies will be performed in two sessions, at 18.00 and 21.00 hours.
