The Regional Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training, through the Andalusian Public Agency for Education, has begun work to improve the roofs, toilets and fencing of the Cardenal Cisneros Secondary School (IES) in Albox, and has recently completed the adaptation of educational spaces for the teaching of Basic Vocational Training (FPB) courses in Hairdressing and Beautician. These two interventions represent a total investment of 251,684.46 euros.
Alonso said that “the needs of the institute will be covered with these improvements”. He added that “one of Education’s priorities is the refurbishment, adaptation and updating of the centres so that both students and teachers can carry out their duties in optimum conditions”. On the other hand, she pointed out that “the growing educational offer in training cycles must be accompanied by actions in infrastructures that adapt the spaces to the new activities”, as “this is the only way to provide quality teaching so that our students have all the tools both to pursue higher education and to enter working life”.
For María del Mar Alfonso, the Popular Party’s candidate for Mayor of Albox, “this is another example of the Regional Government of Andalusia’s commitment to Albox. We have always defended education for all and quality, and in the next legislature we will deepen the collaboration between administrations to provide better services to the municipality.
The recently started refurbishment and improvement works, including the project, have a budget of 220,338.46 euros and a completion period of three months, and will include different interventions on the roofs, toilets, sports courts and fencing of the school.
Specifically, the skylights and gutters will be renovated and the roof of the main building will be waterproofed. The two sports courts will also be modernised and the toilets on the ground floor of the building will be completely refurbished. Finally, the perimeter walls of the courtyard will be partially rebuilt.
These works are in addition to another action completed last December, which consisted of the redistribution of some spaces that were in disuse to make room for a classroom for basic vocational training in Hairdressing and Aesthetics. This intervention has had a total investment of 31,346.00 euros.
These two actions are part of the Educational Infrastructure Plan of the Department of Educational Development and Vocational Training, which is implemented through the Andalusian Public Agency for Education.
Both have European co-financing through the REACT-EU funds within the Andalusia ERDF Operational Programme 2014-2020, as part of the European Union’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, and have been contracted through the Framework Agreement for works launched by the Agency to speed up the timeframe for contracting and starting the school refurbishments.
