The National Police have arrested three people in Lorca (Murcia), two women and a man aged between 37 and 69, for allegedly defrauding and stealing from the woman they were caring for, according to sources from the police force in a statement.
The operation began as a result of a complaint from the victim’s lawyer, in which she stated that people close to her client, not relatives, could be taking advantage of her state of health, a 68-year-old woman, whose physical and mental state is very deteriorated, to appropriate her assets.
Following the complaint lodged at the Lorca police station, the agents began an investigation which led them to the arrested women, who were responsible for the care of the victim, who lived alone in her home as she had no close relatives.

These circumstances allowed the arrested women to have access to the victim’s ID card, bank card, PIN number and other personal documents.
Taking advantage of the woman’s particularly vulnerable situation, the arrestees stole her ID card, bank card, mobile phone, jewellery and various personal effects. In addition, they made numerous non-consensual thefts of money, including one of the carers and her partner, the man arrested, underwent costly operations and treatments in a dental clinic worth 5,900 and 9,000 euros, respectively.
The man allegedly used someone else’s documents to acquire a large cylinder capacity vehicle by means of a purchase contract in the name of the victim, forging the victim’s signature, to later go to an agency and make the transfer in the name of the detainee, appropriating the vehicle together with the documents and its keys. She later claimed that it had been a wedding present.
The agents have seized documentation, jewellery and personal effects of the victim, who died during the course of the investigation, as well as the vehicle acquired by the perpetrators while waiting to locate a relative who could take charge of it, once the judicial authority concludes the investigation.
The detainees, of Spanish nationality and residing in Totana and Lorca, were placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction of Lorca for the adoption of the corresponding precautionary measures.
