More than a thousand elderly people from different municipalities of the province are taking part in the cultural activity ‘Equipaje de experiencias’ of the Provincial Council which is being held in Benidorm. It is an initiative that was created with the aim of encouraging the participation of older people in leisure and free time activities of a cultural nature.
The participants, on this first occasion from municipalities in the regions of Almanzora, Los Vélez, Huércal-Overa and the Levante Norte and Sur areas, will enjoy a three-day, two-night trip to Benidorm where they will get to know this municipality and others in the province of Alicante, as well as taking part in different leisure activities.
The President of the Provincial Council of Almeria, Javier A. García, together with the Vice President and Deputy for Social Welfare, Ángel Escobar, accompanied the first two groups of the three that will make this trip, which is part of the actions that the Provincial Institution promotes to encourage the social participation of the elderly throughout the province.

In this sense, Javier A. García said that «this initiative is a small way that we have from the Government of the province, from the Diputación de Almería, to repay you for everything you have done for our land. If today Almería is the prosperous land that it is, it is because of you, men and women who have given everything for others to build the province that we enjoy today».
The President also encouraged the participants, people over 65 years of age, to take advantage of «the best stage of your life in which you find yourselves to carry out activities that your obligations prevented you from doing before. Your well-being is one of the main objectives of the Provincial Council. That is why, from the Social Welfare Department, we put in place all the necessary actions so that you have quality of life, personal autonomy and quality leisure activities».
Among the activities that the participants in ‘Equipaje de experiencias’ will carry out in Benidorm is a guided tour of the municipality and the neighbouring towns of Calpe and Altea, as well as activities in the swimming pool and other initiatives to enjoy a full day of coexistence.
