The fire of a light meter allowed the Local Police of San Javier to discover a marijuana plantation, hidden in the courtyard of a villa located in the neighbourhood of Los Rios. The fire was reported to the 112 emergency service switchboard after 21.00 hours on Thursday. The house, located next to the neighbourhood park and a few metres from the local police headquarters, had a meter on fire on the outside of the building, so the officers called the fire brigade. A Guardia Civil patrol also went to the house.
The firemen had to extinguish the flames which affected a nearby meter belonging to a house in the same street. Both the local police and the Guardia Civil officers tried to contact the people occupying the house, but got no response. When they found that the access door to the house was open, they went in with the firemen to check if the fire had spread inside and, consequently, if someone was affected and unable to leave.
During the inspection of the house, they found that there was no one inside, but when they reached the courtyard they found a large plantation of what they identified from the beginning as marijuana. After initial enquiries, the police located the owners. Shortly afterwards, the son of the owners showed up and said that they had rented the house. The Policía Loca will proceed this Friday with the eviction of the plants, which will be carried out in parallel with the investigation into the promoters of the plantation.
